SLS Resources Tips & Tricks
Sora's NY Reads is now paired with TeachingBooks Resources
This is amazing! If you click on your TeachingBooks icon in library.fyi, you now have the pairing of two amazing resources, TeachingBooks and Sora's NY Reads. Please share this information with your teachers, as this helps folks to wade through everything NY Reads has to offer (and all of it is available all the time to all students). To access the lists, go to TeachingBooks and select the three-line toggle menu in the upper left corner. (If you get prompted for a login, SLS has the password, or you can create your own login on the spot to curate resources.) Select “Your Reading Lists” and the NY Reads lists will now appear under your BOCES lists. Here are direct links to the lists:
Email Karin if you have any questions about Sora's NY Reads or TeachingBooks. More info can also be found about NY Reads on our LibGuide.

Social and Emotional Learning Support in Your NOVELny Gale Resources
Monday, December 12, 2022 from 3:00 – 3:45 PM ET
Social and emotional learning (SEL) has never been more important. Educators recognize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students’ emotional health and are taking action to help them find support and build the resilience they need to navigate uncertainty. Gale resources from NOVELny can help! Topics related to SEL have been added to our Gale In Context databases and our OneFile collections offer current, leading journals that address these issues as well. In this session, we’ll share how you can find this content and share it with your students to support their emotional intelligence. An attendance certificate will be provided for those who attend live.

What's happening in your library?
Updated Library Space at Whitehall Elementary School!
From Alexandra Gibson, Librarian at Whitehall Elementary School:
One of the biggest updates at Whitehall is that our new shelves and reading nooks have arrived! I wanted to do a big shout out to the ladies at BOCES for helping me put together and re-dewey the entire Non-fiction section! Your help was extremely appreciated. Overall the library space has changed! I have been working on remodeling and redoing the library space since I started back in November. This is the first full year that Whitehall has had a certified librarian, especially since the great flood of 2020. When I first started, the space was overflowing with disorganization. The books were all over the space and even some books were outside the library living in the hallway. I can now confidently say all of our books are housed in the library once again! While I was working on organizing the books, I also worked on separating the library space into three distinct areas: research, classroom and makerspace which is highlighted by the colors in the space. Overall, the library is starting to become a focal point for school. Teachers, students and community members have come into the space and have said that it had felt welcoming and comfortable. I even had some parents say they wish the library looked like this when they were in school! My next project for the space is adding some signage and creating some displays that highlight grade level topics of interest, however I still have to find the best sticky material to put on the walls!
