Much of the success of the Johnson Jaguar Band can be traced back to our students’ high-quality individual musicianship. That individual musicianship is developed not only during daily band class and at-home practice but through our incredible Private Lesson Program.

The band staff has worked diligently to assemble the finest local professionals on each and every instrument to deliver 1-on-1 lessons to our students who enroll in the program! Lessons occur on campus before, during, and after school. Although not required, lessons are highly encouraged. Private lessons are not for remediation but rather enrichment!

Students are encouraged to reach out directly to an instructor to sign up and schedule lessons.

Our treasurer has started issuing refunds for the summer band meal payments. If you paid $224 for the summer meals, you will be receiving a $48 refund. The refunds take 3-5 business days to process. If you have not received a refund by Friday, please contact Meredith Riechmann at treasurer@johnsonbands.com.

For accounting purposes, the financial policy regarding refunds when necessary is for the appropriate amount to be refunded. It cannot be applied to other meal plans, fees, or products. Thank you for your understanding.

And just like that, the summer band season is a wrap! The 2023 summer band has been nothing short of extraordinary, filled with new faces, growth, and enthusiasm. Our veterans provided invaluable guidance, while our new staff and, design team injected fresh energy into our rehearsals, setting the stage for an incredible marching season ahead.

As we gear up for the school year's beginning, our weekly rehearsal schedule will transition to the standard weekly routine. Rehearsals will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursdays from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and Friday mornings from 7:00 to 8:00 AM. Please note that there may be adjustments to the Thursday and Friday schedules in case of football games on those days. Kindly keep a close eye on the calendar for updates.

Our fall kick-off fundraiser has been a roaring success and is approaching its final days. We're tantalizingly close to reaching our goal, and with a final push, we're confident we can not only achieve it but surpass it, making this fundraiser a resounding triumph!

To those who joined us for the "Taste of Marching" event earlier this week, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Witnessing parents, family members, and students come together on the field and sideline filled us with joy. The event's success was palpable through the smiles, laughter, and shared happiness. This marks the start of a tradition we're committed to continuing in the future.

As we wrap up this week's letter, let's hold onto the memories from the Taste of Marching event and channel that excitement toward what lies ahead this season. Today and tomorrow, remember, "it's a great day to be a Jaguar"!

SPIRIT SEND-OFF

On marching competition days, the Jaguar band community gets together at a designated site to wave signs, etc. as the students pass by on the buses! It is a lot of fun and the students really enjoy it! You can see them waving and smiling as they pass by! Keep a lookout for sign-making parties and times to meet for send off on competition days!

Summer uniforms and other uniform parts included in fees or reordered will be distributed once received from the vendors. Some of these items are custom ordered and will take some time but will be issued before needed.

TIME TO MAKE HEAD PIECES! GUARD WORK DAY!!

We will need help cutting, sewing, and assembling head pieces for the Color Guard. No experience necessary!

We will FOR SURE have a guard work day on Saturday, 8am - 12pm while the band & guard have practice.

If you have them, please bring your material scissors, sewing machines, and glue guns! Thanks in advance!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!

Please don't forget that your student MUST wear SOLID TAN OR BLACK undergarments with all of their uniforms or costumes. In some circumstances, prints on underwear or bras can be seen through the outfits!

• Guard members must purchase no-show black socks to wear with their black uniform sneakers.
• Guard members must wear thin black booties with their jazz shoes. CLICK HERE for an example. Wearing jazz shoes without socks makes them smell very bad!

• Marching and Competition uniforms are always turned in after games or competitions. Each student must stand in line to turn in their uniform. Their uniform must be hung correctly. If it is not hung correctly, they will have to fix the issue and get back in line.

• Only parent volunteers handle uniforms. The more volunteers we have checking uniforms in, the faster students can turn in their uniform and the sooner everyone can go home.

• We ask that you please don’t call or text your child to tell uniform volunteers that they need to hurry up or that you are upset by the waiting time.

One of our parents who is a Dell employee shared that you may be able to donate $150 per quarter for volunteer activities, etc. If you are a Dell employee or employee of another corporation, please consider participating in their donation program and give to the Johnson Band. If you have done so already, you might need to resubmit the request periodically (quarterly, annually). Every little bit helps!

If your company has a program that makes charitable donations, please let us know so that we can share that with our families who may not be aware. Every opportunity we have to support our students is greatly appreciated!

There is a drop off slot in the band hall. Or students can email a digital copy of their hours to banquet@johnsonbands.com. The JHS Band Boosters have created a form for band students to track their band volunteer service hours. (Click the previous sentence to link to the form.) This form is similar to what is used by other organizations such as the NHS and puts control of volunteer service hours tracking in the students hands. Students should print and use this to log for all band related volunteer service hours and ensure completion of all fields including supervisor signature. Parents signatures are not accepted. Follow all details on the form to turn in the logs in the spring to be considered for Band Student Service Awards at the Band Banquet or for logging volunteer service for Letterman Jacket points. Any questions, contact banquet@johnsonbands.com or secretary@johnsonbands.com. This form should be used for all hours since the Band Banquet last spring. Multiple forms may be submitted to track all of your volunteer service.
