Registration information will be forthcoming.
Fall testing dates and schedules
On October 12, grade 9 students will take the PSAT 8/9. All other students will attend classes on their regular schedules. On October 24, grade 10 students will take the PSAT 10 and grade 11 students will take the NMSQT tests. A grab and go lunch will be available, as will buses after the testing period. All other students will not have school that day.
All students have access to free video lessons and practice assessments via Khan Academy, and this practice experience is tailored to meet individual student needs. Students can access these materials at www.satpractice.org. Students will also be encouraged to practice through Bluebook, College Board’s test delivery platform. Bluebook will be introduced to students during the school day.
Leyden provides translation options and tools
Leyden is actively working to improve translations and enhance our connections with families. To that end, we will be utilizing electronic communications whenever possible, because of its ability to be easily translated. Currently, there are more than a dozen requested languages of preference for our Leyden families, and we want to ensure that our messages are accessible to everyone.
We have designed a video playlist to explain the various translation tools that Leyden is utilizing, including QR codes, Google Docs, the Leyden website, Home Access Center, YouTube, and Microsoft Translate. Currently, the video is offered in four languages, and we are working to produce one in every language of preference for our families.
Winter weather closings
The potential for winter weather school building closures is upon us. In the event that in-person instruction would need to be canceled due to snow, freezing temperatures, or other hazardous conditions, all families, students and staff would receive direct communication (email, phone, text) from Leyden. In addition, the information would be posted on the Leyden website and in local and social media outlets.
As a reminder, the general plan would be to move to an E-Learning, asynchronous schedule. This means that assignments would be posted in Schoology by 9 a.m. and students would need to complete them by the end of the day. If the emergency situation continues longer than one day, the district plans to switch to a synchronous E-Learning schedule for the second day and beyond, as necessary. The synchronous schedule would follow the same format as a regular school day bell schedule.
Winter play auditions
When it comes to a performance you want everything to be absolutely perfect. When everything doesn't go as planned you still have to keep doing and do the best with what you've got. The Play That Goes Wrong is a hilarious show about a show that, despite everyone's best intentions, goes completely off the rails. We're not even sure we're going to be able to pull this off!
Come on out and audition for this very funny and entertaining play, no experience necessary.
Auditions Tuesday, October 3 (East) and Wednesday, October 4 (West) starting at 3:30 p.m. *Students only have to attend one of the auditions.
Girls tennis sponsoring Halloween dance
The Leyden girls tennis team will be hosting their 2nd annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Saturday, October 21, in the East Leyden Student Cafeteria. The theme for this year is “Halloween Costume” and it's a dance for kids and their special date....dad, uncle, grandpa, brother or somebody special. The dance is for girls ages 3-12. A professional DJ and photographer will help make this a special event. Last year, more than 110 kids attended and we expect this year to be an even bigger event!
