September 14, 2023
To Our Titans Community and Staff,
The state has released school and district report cards today, Thursday, September 14. The report card features a rating system of 1-5 stars. This is the first year that schools and districts receive an overall star rating for the school or district.
This year, districts and schools are being rated on six components for the 2022-23 school year in addition to other non-rated measures. The six components are Overall Rating (a rating that represents all components), Achievement (how well students performed on state tests), Progress (the growth all students make based on their past performance), Gap Closing (how well schools are doing in closing the achievement gap between students based on income, race, ethnicity or disability), Graduation Rate, and K-3 Literacy. A revised measure for College, Career, Military and Workforce readiness (a measurement of how well-prepared students are for college, military service, careers and technical training) will begin to be rated in 2025 by the State.

Report cards are only one part of Berea City School District’s story. Report cards provide information on the progress of districts and schools in raising achievement and preparing students for the future. The data can be used to guide school improvement and respond to student learning needs. However, Ohio School Report Cards are not the only measure of the success or accomplishments of a school or district. There’s far more to measuring a child’s learning and growth than what’s scored on the report card. To get a full picture of students’ educational experiences, visit our schools, attend events, talk to educators, parents, students, and graduates, view our website, social media, and our soon-to-be-released Quality Profile. A lot of great things are happening in our schools that do not get captured and shared in the report card. Our core belief is that success is defined by whether learners are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in an ever-changing world in the lives they live outside of school.
For more information and to help you better understand what Ohio School Report Cards measure, families and the community can review the Ohio Department of Education’s Guide to 2023 Ohio School Report Cards, or you can attend or watch the October 9, 2023 Board of Education Meeting when Mr. Nick Discenza, Director of Academic Affairs will present specific information and details about the district report card.
Be safe, be kind and ALWAYS be a Titan!
