January 12, 2024
Welcome to our weekly newsletter for Columbus Elementary families! Every Friday we will share good news, important information, and of course our STAR STUDENTS with you.
Week in Review
At Columbus the theme for January is Responsible. Yesterday the PTA funded a character education assembly that emphasized our school’s mission to be a STAR student by being responsible, respectful, and making safe choices. Students learned how they are responsible for their choices and those decisions define who they are. Whether it is their choice to always give their best effort, to be kind to others, to be a leader, to learn from their mistakes, or to never give up - their choices reflect who they are and impact those around them.
The speaker was Corey Jones, who is the owner of numerous basketball shooting records and the Nation’s leader in 3pt shooting accuracy- Corey earned the reputation as one of the best shooters in the country. His experiences with basketball also include winning a National Championship in both High School and College. He used his personal stories, basketball skills, and tricks to entertain our students while delivering this impactful assembly. The kids were laughing, actively engaged, and echoing his powerful message throughout. This was a great carry over to our physical education classes, who are in the middle of their basketball unit. Please see some pictures and a video below in the around Columbus section.
