Weekly Highlights
District leaders take "field trip" to meet with three community partners
Earlier this week, leaders from across the school district went on a field trip to visit and engage in dialogue with three community partners who happen to continently be located all in one location. These partners included Words of Hope 4 Life - The Rail (Viewpoint), Hospitality House Food Pantry, and the Detroit Institute of Children.
Attendees were divided into high school feeder patterns and rotated through all three locations to learn directly from these groups and how the District can continue to grow and foster the already existing partnerships.
District administration would like to thank these three community partners and the staff members who took time out of their day for engaging in this event on behalf of the community we all serve.
Oakley Park Elementary students whip up a sweet lesson for Mrs. Froning
Oakley Park Elementary principal Kristin Froning enjoyed some pie to the face on Friday afternoon as a reward for the Owls annual PTA Raffle.
One student was randomly selected from each grade that sold over $80 in raffle tickets during the fundraiser. They also surprised the staff with an opportunity to pie Mrs. Froning, which was won by Mrs. DeJonghe.
Fox named Player of the Month
Lauren Fox, senior at WLN and captain of the Walled Lake Wild girls hockey team was recent selected as Michigan Girls High School Hockey League November Player of the Month. More information about the award can be found at: https://www.migirlshshockey.org/

This year's celebration will at Walled Lake Northern High School with a tour of student exhibits starting at 5 p.m. and a formal program starting at 6:15 p.m.
This year’s theme is “You Belong” with the focus on inclusivity. Our keynote speaker is Kevin Szawala, aka “Mr. Peace”. Students encouraged to participate in Annual Express Yourself Contest
Students of WLCSD are welcomed to submit an Express Yourself project. The theme for this year’s project is “You Belong”. Students should create a project that expresses what this theme means to them. Projects can be a speech, an essay, a picture, a poem, a drawing, a video, a musical piece or any other format to express “You Belong".
The winner(s) of this contest will share their projects, on stage, at the 25th annual WLCSD MLK Day Celebration. This is a great opportunity to recognize students and their creativity. It is by far the crowd’s favorite part of the MLK Celebration. Check out the project details and entry form.
