Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are all safe and well after the wild weather last weekend. It was amazing to see the level of destruction in some suburbs whilst others escaped unscathed!

This week is National Reconciliation Week. The 2020 theme– In this together – was chosen last year and could not be a better fit in the current climate. It is a timely reminder that we are all in this together in all things!

FAREWELL MISS WHYTE

Today was Miss Whyte's last day at Orana, where she has been a member of staff for 25 years!! We wish her well as she retires/leaves to take up new challenges and thank her sincerely for her contribution to Orana over many years.

We also had the chance to say a proper farewell to Mrs McKay who retired last year whilst on Long Service Leave. We thank her for all she has given over her time with us and look forward to her visits as a relief teacher.

PERFORMING ARTS

The planning of the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival for 2020 is still uncertain and the event will not be going ahead in its usual format. We have been advised that it may only involve sending a video in to receive feedback. No certificates, awards or shields will be presented this year and live performances are unlikely. The opportunity to perform in front of a live audience is what performing is all about. Orana, along with many other schools, have advised that they will not be participating this year, given the disruption to rehearsal schedules and uncertainty of the festival at this late stage in the term.

INTERSCHOOL EVENTS

I received an update this week from CEWA in relation to COVID-19. Changes are being implemented slowly however, at this stage, inter-school sports competitions are not permitted to be held. I know this is disappointing for some students but the safety and well being of students is our priority. Decisions will continue to be made based on the latest advice from relevant bodies.

CAR PARK PROCEDURES

Thank you for your ongoing patience with the drop and pick up procedures. A number of parents/carers are arriving early causing congestion and holding up parents/carers who have arranged to pick students up for appointments etc. PLEASE do not arrive before 2.30 pm.

A reminder that Tuesday June 2nd is a pupil free day - children return on Wednesday June 3rd. Enjoy the mini break.
