January Spirit Day- Fancy Day
What does fancy mean to you? It doesn't have to be a dress or a tuxedo! Dress for success. Have a tie. Great! Fancy shoes? Fantastic! (just make sure you don't have PE!) Scarf, jewelry or hair accessory? Do it! Everything works.
Sato Inclement Weather Plan
❄️ Snow is (maybe!) on the way! ❄️
According to the local news outlets, there is a possibility of snow in our future! Knowledge is power and we hope that you take a few minutes to read through our Snow Day procedures in case we do actually get snow.
When schools are on a late start or snow routes due to inclement weather, there is no bus service available to Sato. Beaverton School District has determined that when temperatures are projected to be near/at/below freezing, NW Kaiser road between NW Ernst and NW Ridgeline continues to show icy conditions when other high elevation areas do not. This stretch of the road has a hill that when icy, has led to both automobile and school bus crashes.
Beaverton School District Transportation department is solely responsible for this decision. Sato staff does not have control over this decision.
On these days, we need to create an alternate plan for dismissal. Please note: Dismissal will take an extended amount of time (up to an hour or more) since we are having to release students 1 by 1 to get to their guardian safely. Thank you in advance for showing grace and patience for our hardworking staff during these times.

If you are WALKING to pick up your child
Please see the map below for the areas where parents will be asked to wait for their child to come out.
Upon arrival to your waiting area, you will find a QR code that you can scan to let us know you are here to pick up your student. The student's name will then be displayed on a big screen in their staging area to let a staff member know to bring them to their guardian. We will take kids in groups due to staffing so kindly be patient as you wait for your student. See the map below where you will find your pickup location.
If you are DRIVING to pick up your child
If your child is a bus rider, we will assume that you are driving to pick them up-- UNLESS-- you fill out a change of going home plan before 12:00pm. All of the normal bus riders will be staged based on their grade levels.
If you have students in Kinder or First Grade-- you will use the roundabout to pick up your students.
If you have students in Second through Fifth Grade-- you will use the bus/staff lane to pick up your students.
If you have students who are in Kinder or First AND you have older students as well, the older students will go to the younger students location and wait with them. You will pick them up at the roundabout area.
Please make sure to check ParentSquare as we will be communicating this information and any changes via ParentSquare during the day of the event.
Dreambox
Dreambox is a wonderful tool that our students use to help with their math instruction. This tool is predictive, based on the way the students answer, so that it can provide them with the practice they need to master a skill. For this reason, we ask that parents do not help their student when using Dreambox at home. It interferes with the algorithm and doesn't provide teachers with accurate data. Thank you!
School Board Recognition Month
January is School Board Recognition Month. We want to recognize the leadership and contributions of our seven volunteer school board members.
Chair Dr. Karen Pérez, Vice Chair Sunita Garg, and members Susan Greenberg, Dr. Melissa Potter, Ugonna Enyinnaya, Justice Rajee and Dr. Tammy Carpenter devote hundreds of hours to serving the district's students, parents, staff members and community.
Thank you for your dedication!
Kindness in the Classroom- Inclusiveness
Hello Families,
We have been using a curriculum called Kindness in the Classroom which teaches lessons around social and emotional learning. There are 6 units each with a focused skill. We have introduced the traits of Respect, and Caring thus far.
This month we are moving into the trait of Inclusiveness. Here are some resources to encourage learning about inclusiveness at home.

January 15 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
January 15, 2024 is Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and National Day of Service. Since its initial recognition and celebration in 1986, the third Monday in January has been observed each year as “a day on, not a day off.” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. West Tuality Habitat for Humanity is hosting volunteers and SOLVE Oregon offers a volunteer opportunity and other ideas for folks looking to take part in community-based ways to honor the holiday.
On January 15, the Skanner Foundation will hold its 38th annual MLK Breakfast at the Convention Center from 8:30 to 10:30 am. On the same day, the 47th Annual Keep Alive the Dream celebration of Dr. King will take place between 1:00 and 4:00 pm at the Highland Christian Center.
