Last Day of School PTO Picnic - Lunch Form Due Wednesday!

Come CELEBRATE the last day of school with your student(s)! Families are invited to join their students for a picnic style lunch during the student's lunch time on the Last Day of School, June 1st! You are welcome to bring food for you and/or your child or just come sit with your child while they eat their lunch. ALL students will sign up for either a School Sack lunch or a Home lunch.

The Picnic Student Lunch Form will come home this week. The bottom portion needs to be returned to your students teacher by this Wednesday (5/10).

Middle School School Supply Kits for 2023-2024

Middle School Supplies for Next Year

Dear Families of future 6th graders:

Ordering is now available for school supply kits through "SchoolKidz" for NEXT year (2023-24). These kits are an optional and convenient way to purchase your student's school supplies. Please visit www.shopttkits.com and enter our school's code "84484". Place your order by June 9, 2023 and your child's school supplies will be delivered to your home by August 11th. The kits contain all items identified on the UMS school supply list for next year, except for the following:

1) drawing pencils for 6th grade Art

2) guitar picks for 7th grade Music

3) PE attire

JHawks On The Way Registration

It is time for 5th grade students to register for J-Hawk On The Way. The flyer linked below has a QR code with two links attached to it, one is JOW registration and one is the medical form. We need all 5th grade students that are wanting to attend JHawk on the Way to fill out both forms.

When registering families will need to select the day their student would be available to attend. Communication will be sent when the final schedule is confirmed. Each student will be receiving a FREE T-shirt the day of the event and FREE breakfast & lunch! Most importantly Jhawks on the Way will be FREE this year and will be held at UMS all day 8am-3:15pm!

UCSD Garage Sale July 14, 2023

Urbandale Community School District is hosting a garage sale event at Rolling Green Elementary. On July 14, 2023, the sale will be open exclusively to educators within UCSD and the community from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Please contact Brandi Crawford at (515) 457-5010 or crawfordb@urbandaleschools.com to schedule a time to visit the pre-sale (open for educators by appointment only). Run with a Loved One is on FRIDAY, May 12th!

Friday, May 12th during your child’s Lunch Recess time (times below), families are invited to come out and run/walk on the Valerius (at Jensen) track together for our last day of Running Club! A Valerius staff member will be outside to direct you around the outside of building to the track (located on the playground). The lunch recess times are listed below. *Please park across the street and use the crosswalk.

Recess Times

1st Grade -> 11:25-11:45am
5th Grade -> 11:55-12:15pm
Kindergarten -> 12:20-12:40pm
2nd Grade -> 12:30-12:50pm
4th Grade -> 12:45-1:05pm
3rd Grade -> 12:55-1:15pm

**Note 3rd grade & 4th grade recess is switched that day due to a field trip!!

Uplifting Urbandale

The Rolling Green canned food drive was part of a PBL (Project Based Learning) for 2nd Grade English Language Learners. The problem that students identified was hunger in the community, and they talked about ways they could help solve the problem. Students came up with the idea of collecting food and donating it to the Urbandale Food Pantry.

Valerius Field Day Save the Date

Field Day will take place at Valerius on May 24th. The event will run a bit differently this year with having a morning session and an afternoon session. This will help increase student participation. The morning session will run from 10:00-11:30am for Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. The afternoon session will run from 1:30-3:00pm for 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade. A cool treat for everyone will take place from 3:00-3:30pm. *There won't be a need for volunteers this year. Families are still welcome to watch their student participate.

More information will be coming soon but make sure to upload the Valerius Family Events & Activities Calendar (Google or iCal) to stay up today with all the end of year activities that take place in May!

Safety City - Incoming Kinder Students

Safety City is a week-long summer program for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2023. Children will learn about traffic safety, fire safety, home, playground and other kinds of personal safety in an entertaining, positive environment. Register HERE.

23-24 Online Registration
