School Counselors Celebrate During National School Counseling Week, February 3–7
Dear La Ballona Families,
This week, we celebrate National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). The theme for this year is “School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive.” This week shines a spotlight on the significant role school counselors play in fostering student success and enhancing their academic and social-emotional growth, while also collaborating with staff, administrators, and families.
School counselors partner with families, educators, and administrators to connect students with resources and provide answers to important questions, all aimed at promoting student achievement. “School counselors support all students by eliminating barriers to learning, addressing academic challenges, career pathways, and social-emotional skills,” as expressed by Jill Cook, ASCA's executive director.
We invite our students, staff, and community to join CCUSD in acknowledging the invaluable contributions of a well-rounded school counseling program and our exceptional counseling team at La Ballona! A heartfelt thank you to Counselor Ulloa-Serrano for your dedication and hard work!
With appreciation,
Dr. Becky Godbey, Principal
Ms. Brenda Selva, Assistant Principal

School Accountability Report Card (SARC)
Dear Parents/Guardians,
California Education Code requires schools to annually publish a School Accountability Report Card (SARC) to provide data “by which parents can make meaningful comparisons between public school enabling them to make informed decisions on which school to enroll their children.” CCUSD believes that information contained in these reports will enable parents to gain an accurate and realistic picture of its schools.
SARCs are posted on the school’s and district’s websites in English and will soon be posted in Spanish. Please access them at www.ccusd.org/sarcs/ . If you desire a hard copy of your school’s SARC, please contact your school’s main office.
Safe Routes to School Update
Even with rain in the forecast (let's hope not), our Walk & Rollers will be on the move! Join us on Wednesday, February 5th from 8:00-8:40am, for Walk to School day!
Remember to wear extra layers and bring an umbrella, and if riding in the wet, please take extra precautions on the ride. Wear bright AND reflective gear with lights (and it's always a good idea to bring extra socks !). Please also remember that Ballona Creek is often closed when it rains so prepare for alternative routes. (Check in with your school's Parent Champions or your school's announcements to confirm events are still happening if it rains)
Family Friday & Coffee Chat on February 7th!
Join us for La Ballona’s Lunar New Year Parade during Family Friday on the blacktop on Friday, February 7th at 8:35am. Come see Sunny the Dragon, who was designed and detailed by La Ballona students in celebration of the Lunar New Year. 4th and 5th grade students will be invited to march in the parade; if they have a costume that has cultural meaning to the holiday they are invited to wear it! In the Chinese zodiac, 2025 is the Year of the Snake, which represents wisdom, transformation, and personal growth. Lunar New Year is observed by many Asian cultures around the world and here in America!
La Ballona's school song will be led by 4th grade. Come cheer them on!
Following our Family Friday, please join us in the Cafeteria for this month's Coffee & Chat. Come learn about our Title 1 program and how we work towards equality at La Ballona (English & Spanish).
