Irish Gifted Academy
Week of February 26th, 2023
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Greetings IGA Family,
February is Black History Month and lessons and activities have been designed to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans. With an emphasis on our local heritage, we will explore and celebrate the contributions of African Americans to the city of Dublin, the state of Georgia, and the nation. Our culminating activity will be the IGA Hidden Figures Wax Museum on this Tuesday, February 28, 2023. See more info below concerning our Hidden Figures Wax Museum.
I hope that each of you enjoyed Winter Break as a time to relax and rejuvenate. What a WONDERFUL sight to see all the smiling faces on Tuesday morning. It was a short but busy week, completing 121 days of learning and growing at IGA!
We are extremely excited about our upcoming Literacy Event, Read Across America. We will celebrate reading with Dr. Seuss books and activities each day February 27- March 3. Reading is one of the most important skills that a person can have. It opens up a world of possibilities and allows people to learn about new things. There are many reasons why reading is so important for both children and adults. When people read, they are exposed to new ideas and different ways of thinking. This helps them to critically evaluate information and make better decisions. Another reason why reading is so important is that it helps people to develop their imagination. When people read, they are transported to different worlds and allowed to explore new ideas. This can help them to come up with new ideas of their own. Reading also helps to improve communication skills. People who read frequently can better express themselves, both in writing and verbally. They are also better able to understand what others are saying. Reading to your children helps build a bond and open up communication. Enjoy a good book with your child each day and open a world of possibilities!
Read Across America Book Days are listed below.
Monday- I Am Not Going to Get Up Today! Students may wear pajamas.
Tuesday- Fox in Socks Students may wear crazy socks.
Wednesday- Green Eggs and Ham Students may wear GREEN.
