Parents, every time a student is absent, please send a note the day they return. Failure to send a parent note/doctor's note/court note within three (3) days will result in the day being unexecused. Parents can write 7 parent notes per year. Notes can be dropped in the attendance office, or in the "mailbox" in the Visual Arts hallway.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will meet for the first time this school year on Thursday, August 10, after school in CS347 (Mrs. Ledden’s room). Refreshments will be served. FBLA is an after-school club for any student interested in the field of business. Students enrolled in business courses this year are encouraged to join FBLA. Dues are $10.

ORHS TSA will have an introduction/information meeting Wednesday, August 16, 2-3 pm in PA-144. A second meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 23, 2-3 pm for interested students to return club affiliation dues and the REQUIRED parental permission form. ORHS TSA will begin regular meetings in September, once our affiliation is complete and the 2024 competitive events have been released.

Student Council and Senior Steering are partnering together for this year’s Parking Lot Spot Design Fundraiser! Here is all the info you need!

Basics:

• Applications are available from Aug 1st-Aug 11th from Mrs. Wagner in LC311 or on the Wildcat Canvas Hangout Page.

• Spots are available to current Juniors and Seniors.

• Spots are $50. Cash or check accepted to Mrs. Wagner with completed application.

Choosing Spots:

• Seniors with completed applications and payment may come to LC311 on Thursday Aug 10th during 3A to choose their spots.

• Juniors with completed applications and payment may come to LC311 on Friday August 11th during 3A to choose their spots.

• All those who do not choose their spots will be assigned one in their chosen lot (front or back)

• Current seniors who painted a spot last year will be eligible to repurchase their spot for $50. Please let us know this by Friday August 4th, as the group is painting over all spots in black on Saturday August 5th.

Painting Your Spot:

• Your application will include a page to submit your design. This can be drawn by hand or done digitally, but we must have a hard copy of it on hand to accept it.

• All designs should be school appropriate and approved by Student Council and Senior Steering.

• Any deviation from the accepted design submitted will result in forfeiture of the parking space with no refund as well as a discipline referral.

• Painting day is Saturday August 12th! Brushes and rollers will be available but all non-black paint will be provided by the purchasing student. Painting begins at 8am, and students should plan to have only this day to paint their spot.

Parents, the staff parking lot on the east end of the campus on Providence Road is NOT a drop off or pick up lot. Please use the Wildcat Arena lot or the front loop to pick up students.

St. Mary’s will begin serving lunches every Monday starting August 14th as long as school is in session. They will not serve on Monday the week of Thanksgiving, or the Monday immediately following. Students should park on the street parking and walk to our building, or park in front of our building or in the parking lot just past it on the other side of our gym.

Lunch at FUM begins this Thursday for off-campus Juniors and Seniors. Please use the Vienna Road entrance. This week's menus is Ravioli, bread, Salad, Fruit, and ice cream for $3.

The Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants is again hosting the Discover Accounting program at The University of Tennessee Knoxville. Students enrolled in second semester of Accounting will be eligible to attend this program with Mrs. Ledden’s first semester Accounting students. The field trip will be Friday, December 1. Any second semester Accounting student should email Mrs. Ledden at tledden@ortn.edu to sign up for the field trip by August 31, 2023.

Parents, 100 copies of the yearbook have already been sold! This year, we will have 750 books for purchase. Purchase the Oak Log for the lowest price of the year right now. Prices will increase throughout the year. Purchase it on a payment plan for $65.00 before Labor Day.

Tennessee Promise is both a scholarship and mentoring program focused on increasing the number of students that attend a postsecondary institution in our state. It provides students a last-dollar scholarship, meaning the scholarship may cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees not covered by the federl Pell grant, the HOPE Scholarship, or the Tennessee Student Assistance Award at any of the state's 13 community colleges or 27 colleges of applied technology. Students may also use the scholarship at other eligible institution offering an associate degree program, but at these institutions the award would be capped at the average cost of tuition and mandatory fees at the community colleges.

Parents, one of the most important aspects to a successful high school career is getting involved. On Wednesday August 30th, Student Council and Wildcats For Change will host a club fair in the cafeteria. Bus riders will be allowed to attend during part of 5th period, and the fair will then be available to all students from 2pm-3pm. This will give students an opportunity to see all the different places they can feel welcome at ORHS.

For seniors, there are some colleges which will honor reduced applications IF it was approved their senior year. Don't let your students miss out on potential reduced costs.

Nate Stephens was selected at the Cadet of the Month for July and Kierra Adams was selected as the Bluejacket of the Month for July, for exceptional performance and dedication to the ORHS NJROTC and Oak Ridge High School.

Parents, in compliance with a new state law, every exterior door is required to be locked at all times unless a LEA is standing at the door to allow students in and out. Because we want ORHS to be as safe as possible, students will be instructed they must NOT open any exterior door for anyone. In addition, students failing to comply with this expectation or propping a door open will have serious consequences up and to including out of school suspension.

In order to provide the safest environment at ORHS, students are required to wear their school issued ID badge on their person. Lost badges must be replaced at a cost of $10.00. Badges were collected at the end of the 2022-23 school year and placed in their laptop cases. More than 200 students DID NOT turn in their badges. ORHS has a list of all badges returned. Students who do not have a badge must replace it immediately. Please be prepared to pay $10.00 for a replacement badge. Students desiring to update their picture for their badge can have a new photo taken and pay $10.00 for a replacement badge.

Freshman students will receive a temporary badge on the first day of school. The Maintenance Dept will print badges as soon as the enrollment stabilizes with new entries and withdrawals.

The expectation of Oak Ridge School is ALL students will wear their badge all day every day!

The Fall NHS application window opens August 21st and closed on September 1st. As soon as the application is provided, we will send it out. Mark this date. This is the last time seniors can apply for NHS.

Students have or will be issued an ID badge. This badge is a keycard to the building. Badges also provide access to the library, OR, printers, lunch accounts, etc. Students have access to the building beginning at 7:00 am. Badges are turned off at 7:50 when the tardy bell rings.

Students are not allowed in the building before 7:00 am when staff is available for supervision. Students are expected to vacate the premises by 3:20 daily if not under the direct supervision of a teacher or coach. Students will NOT be allowed to remain in the Food Court to wait on a parent or a ride home. No supervision is provided after this time.

Parents, students are NOT allowed to carry medications on their person at school. All medications must be registered with our nurse, Lori Gupton. Registration requirements are in the form below. This includes over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl or any type of allergy medications, etc. S

Students must register for transportation services via Skyward. The form is located in the Skyward FAMILY ACCESS ACCOUNT not the student access account. Families were sent instructions to email accounts on file throughout the summer. Paper forms will no longer be accepted.

Students driving to school are required to have a parking tag. There is NO cost; however, they must register their vehicle with Student Services and show their driver's license. The form is electronic and can be found at the link below.

In order for a student to take their permit test, a form is required from the school. Mrs. Thacker, our attendance secretary, prepares these forms. Requests are accepted through the link below. When school is in session, a completed form may be picked up in the Attendance Office. However, if school is NOT in session, the form will be mailed home by USPS.

Did you know your teen will have their driver's license suspended due to poor grades and/or poor attendance?

Parents should review this information with their teen drivers!!

CDC is asking everyone to continue to save your Coke product lids/case codes. Each cap earns $.05 for this classroom! Coke lids/codes can be dropped in Student Services OR families set up their own account @ https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools, input your codes and donate them to Oak Ridge High School. All proceeds donated go to CDC to help pay for classroom supplies, materials and student needs. Thank you for your support!!!
