Title I
Healthy bodies, active minds, responsible citizens
What is a Family School Compact?
The compact is an agreement that families, students and staff develop together which explains how we will work to ensure all students meet or exceed grade level standards.
Effective compacts describe school goals, how staff will help students reach those goals, what parents can do at home, how staff and parents will communicate about student progress and includes information on parent participation/volunteering.
STAFF
To be successful, staff will:
- Implement approved curriculum aligned to AK State Standards
- Use strategies to reach every learner; challenge students with high standards for success
- Communicate early & often through apps, phone calls, notes home and email
- Treat everyone with respect & use CHAMPS to teach expectations
- Foster positive social skills through Positive Action/Social Express, Y tickets, the Responsibility Chart & Kagan Cooperative Learning
STUDENTS
To be successful, students will:
- Complete assignments on time with a high degree of quality
- Practice spelling, math facts and reading at home
- Use the traits on the Responsibility Chart to make positive choices
- Follow class & school rules and expectations
- Have a growth mindset
- Set goals with teachers and monitor their progress
FAMILIES
To be successful, families will:
- Check your child's backpack & Grizzly folder nightly
- Assist your child with unfinished classwork, spelling, math facts and reading
- Monitor your child's progress through ParentVUE, emails, paperwork, etc.
- Discuss school activities with your child
- Communicate positively & respectfully with school staff
- Discuss positive social skills with your child
AIMSWeb Plus
Given Fall, Winter & Spring in grades K - 3.
Quick, one minute tests to measure reading/math readiness and reading fluency. Compares students to national norms.
MAP
Given Fall, Winter & Spring in all grades.
Measures math, language and reading skills.
Compares students to national norms.
AK Star
Given at the end of March to grades 3-5.
Statewide test that measures proficiency at grade level.
Communication is Key!
We are committed to frequent two-way communication with families. Some of the ways you can expect us to reach you:
- Website updates & Facebook posts
- Smore - monthly school newsletters and classroom newsletters
- ParentVUE - check on your child's grades
- Progress reports/missing assignment reports
- Emails/texts using Class Dojo or the school district app
- Parent-Teacher Conferences in November & February
- Phone calls
