Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year!
It has been an exciting summer in the MTSD as we have taken some time to reflect on the successes and challenges of the 2021-22 school year and look forward with anticipation to what lies ahead. Our teachers and staff members will all be returning to campus next week to kick off the school year with our annual PACE Institute. PACE stands for, “Prepare, Align, Collaborate, Evolve” and serves as an opportunity for all MTSD employees to come together to engage, reconnect, build enthusiasm, and get ready to welcome students back into the classroom.
We are proud of the many great accomplishments of our students and staff members and we are motivated by the possibilities and opportunities that this year will provide. Thank you for your partnership and for your trust in the Mequon-Thiensville School District.
We can all be proud to be MTSD!
Watch for communication from your schools! 📩
As we get closer to the first day of school, our principals and school office staff will be sending building-specific communication to families more frequently. Be sure to check your communication preferences in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to ensure that you are set up to receive email notifications (if this message was forwarded to you) and keep an eye out for important messages. Our elementary and middle schools send out weekly or bi-weekly parent bulletins, so make sure you read up on the latest school news when it hits your inbox!
Welcome to our 2022-23 New Staff Members! 🥳
We are thrilled to welcome this year's new staff members to the MTSD family! Please take a few moments to browse our new staff page and get to know our new teachers, support staff, and
other employees at each school.
Please note: New employee information is continuing to be added to the website linked below - check back regularly to see updates!
2022-2023 Procedures & Reminders
We are excited to welcome you back for the 2022-2023 school year! As we get ready to close out the summer season and prepare for another year, we wanted to take a moment to update you on some important information regarding daily classroom and school operations related to health and safety. Last spring, health department guidance shifted in a way that allowed the District to transition into educating families and providing resources regarding COVID-19 rather than directly managing illness in our buildings. After reviewing updated health guidance provided this summer and considering the requirements necessary to maintain our ESSER III funding allocation, MTSD will follow these guidelines specific to COVID-19:
Monitoring the CDC’s COVID-19 Community Levels: We will use this measure of the impact of COVID-19 illness on health and healthcare systems in Ozaukee County to inform our Mitigation Levels.
Isolating a positive case: Students and staff members who test positive for COVID-19 need to isolate for 5 days. Students should access learning materials in Canvas until they are able to return to school.
Diagnostic testing: Testing will be recommended for those experiencing symptoms.
Access to COVID-19 vaccination: MTSD will inform families and staff members of local vaccination opportunities, when available.
Additionally, we will monitor illness-related absences by building and post that information on our website. This information is being provided in place of the COVID-19 dashboard and schoolwide communication procedures that were in place during the previous two years. More information is provided in the 2022-2023 Operating Guidelines, linked here and posted on our website.
As usual, we will continue to monitor conditions and adjust as needed. We are grateful that the 2022-2023 school year is shaping up to resemble the most “pre-pandemic” school environment that we have experienced since the spring of 2020.
Registration & Fees
If you have not already, please complete online registration as soon as possible. To enroll online, one parent or guardian will need to enter or verify your information in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. In cases of resident students with more than one home address, the parent or guardian who completes the enrollment must reside in Mequon or Thiensville. If your information has not changed since the 2021-22 school year, you will simply be required to confirm your information.
If you have not yet paid your school fees, please click here to pay as soon as possible.
Transportation & Here Comes the Bus
Transportation information will be available in the Campus Parent Portal and the Campus Student Portal on August 24th. To get to transportation information, please login to the portal then navigate to More > Transportation.
Wouldn't it be great to know exactly when the bus was going to arrive when the new school year starts? MTSD families now have access to an innovative mobile app and website called "Here Comes the Bus" which allows you to view the real-time location of your child’s school bus on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, using the GPS technologies with which each school bus is equipped. For more information and instructions on how to set up your account, please visit www.mtsd.k12.wi.us/HereComesTheBus. If you have questions about the app, please contact Riteway at 262-512-1044.
School Lunch Fees
Due to the expiration of the USDA school meal waiver, MTSD will return to paid meals for the 2022-23 school year. Our goal, in partnership with Aramark, is to offer nutritious and affordable meals for all students. Please visit our website to view meal prices and menus and to submit an application for free or reduced lunch.
Canvas Access & Curriculum Resources (Scope & Sequences)
Canvas is the district Learning Management System (LMS) for MTSD. Canvas allows teachers to facilitate, document, and track learning in an online environment. Canvas also provides parents with the option of creating a Canvas Parent account. The Canvas Parent account helps parents and other users stay up to date with their student's courses. Through the Canvas Parent account, parents have an “observer” role in their child’s course(s). As an observer, parents are linked to their child’s account so they can see assignment dues dates, announcements, and the grades of items that have been graded in Canvas. Observers can view the course content but cannot participate in the course. Please note that Infinite Campus is the grade authority for student current grades and missing assignments and other course content.
If you are interested in setting up a Canvas Parent account, directions are available here.
In the Mequon-Thiensville School District, curriculum is the interactive system of teaching and learning derived from content based on the district-approved standards. More specifically, it is the knowledge and skills students are expected to learn; the units and lessons taught; the assignments and projects used; the books, materials, videos, presentations, and reading used in a course; and the tests, assessments, and other methods used to evaluate student learning. Curriculum is developed aligned to the district's mission, vision, and strategic plan. Parents, guardians, and community members can access curriculum materials (scope & sequence information) for all subjects and grade levels at any time by visiting the website linked below.
Thank You For Making MTSD's Referendum Project Open House a Success!
On Thursday, August 11, MTSD held a Districtwide Open House to showcase the new and renovated spaces at all six of our school buildings as a result of the 2020 Referendum Project. The Open House was a great way for community members, current and former MTSD families, and staff members, to engage with our building administrators and tour our updated facilities ahead of the upcoming school year. For the most part, construction has concluded at all buildings except for Wilson, which will see its finishing touches wrapping up in the coming days. We are so grateful for the support of the Mequon-Thiensville community in making these improvements a reality and investing in our youth, public schools, and collective future!
Did you forget to pick up a "Proud to be MTSD" yard sign at the open house? No worries! Stop by your school's main office, or the MTSD District Office at any time to grab one!
Connect With Us! 💻
Throughout the school year, be sure to check out the great things going on at your school building by following your school's page on Facebook, as well as the MTSD Facebook page, the District Twitter, and by finding us on LinkedIn.
