Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2023-24 school year!
I hope you had a wonderful summer & are refreshed and ready to kick off a GREAT year!
While the summer break is quickly coming to an end, our teachers have been working collaboratively to prepare for the school year. Our TK through 1st grade classrooms received new furniture to support and encourage flexible seating options and collaborative learning. We also welcome several new teachers to our instructional team. Alison Drewicke, Resource Specialist, Julie Cohen, TK, Emily Fanning, 2nd grade, and Katherine Lee, Kindergarten. We have several new support staff joining our team as well, Francesca Harvey, Attendance Clerk, Joe Griffiths, School Psychologist, Tiffany Alison, Teacher on Special Assignment, Fe Lopez, Special Day Class Para, Jenny Cousins and Ryan Taylor, Music Teachers and Margaret Tuholski, P.E. Teacher.
The Murwood community is a very special and supportive place and our community partners help us thrive. WCEF, our education foundation & PTA are integral parts of our community! Your donations to WCEF fund our specialist programs –science lab, art & music. The PTA at Murwood is here to promote an inclusive community for children and families and support the education and enrichment of our children. As PTA members and/or supporters, you have access to our online school directory. Your volunteer time and funds bring programs and events to school. Some examples include community events, books for the library, classroom teacher and grade level grants, and parent education programs. We both “fun”raise and fundraise throughout the year to meet our annual goals. Fundraisers include:
PTA Annual Fund: Suggested donation of $250/family
PTA Auction For Education: Our primary fundraiser! Stay tuned!
In addition to supporting our PTA, we invite you to join us for various community events that will be organized throughout the year, such as Welcome Back Day and Back to School Night. These events offer excellent opportunities to meet other parents, strengthen community bonds, and create lasting memories for your family.
Once again, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to all families, and I look forward to forging a strong partnership with each one of you. Together, we can make this academic year a memorable and successful one for our students.
Wishing you and your family a fantastic start to the new school year!
Monifa Morgan,
Principal
Won't be able to attend Welcome Back Day?
Teacher assignments will be available in Aeries Parent Portal on Monday, August 14th. Please follow this link to access instructions.
If you still need to complete registration this video can help guide you through the process.
Notes From the Office
All currently enrolled families must visit our Online Welcome Back/Registration webpage to begin the annual Welcome Back/Registration process. Keep in mind that families who do not complete the required yearly data validation form will not be able to access the Aeries parent portal soon after school begins on 8/16/2023.
In Step 3, we will be using the Aeries Parent Portal to update student information online, including incoming TK/Kindergarten families and families new to MW. The annual data confirmation process is required for ALL students in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th Grade and must be completed prior to the first day of school.
TK/Kindergarten Parents
TK/Kindergarten is a big step for children and their parents. To help make the transition to elementary school smooth we have planned several activities for you and your child.
- PTA New TK/K Play Date at the Park will be held at Rudgear Park on Saturday, August 12th from 10:30am-12:00pm.
- TK/K Back to School Night will be held on Monday, August 14th at 6pm. This is a parent only event and will be held in the classrooms.
- TK/K Meet the Teacher Day will be held Tuesday, August 15th between 10am-11am.
Wellness Services
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Youth mental health is a topic of utmost importance, and we believe that by working together, we can create a supportive environment where our children can thrive.
As we start the new school year, we want to remind you of the invaluable resources available to our community through the WCSD Wellness Program.
Wellness Centers at each school site
In addition, Care Solace offers mental health care coordination services and can help connect you and your child with appropriate community-based providers. Whether it's counseling, therapy, or other mental health services, Care Solace can assist you in finding the support your family may need. To access Care Solace's coordination services, please visit our Counseling page here.
By joining hands and working together as a community, we can provide a nurturing and inclusive environment that supports the mental health and well-being of our youth. Let's continue to prioritize their emotional growth, and together, we can create a brighter future for our children.
Thank you for being caring and involved parents and guardians in the Walnut Creek School District. Your dedication to supporting our youth is truly commendable.
