April 1, 2022
Message from the Principal
Greetings Findley Community~
Spring is in the air! Trees and bulbs are blooming, and Spring Fever is upon us as we grow closer to the end of the school year. Speaking of the end of the year, we are starting to bring back some of the familiar, in person events from our pre-pandemic life. Among them, Art Lit, Beautification Day, the Scholastic Book Fair, Bingo Night, Field Day and a fan favorite; the Findley Carnival! Be sure to check out the PTO section of this newsletter for more information on all of these fun, family events. You don't want to miss them.
Lots of good information to read in this edition of the Dragon News~
Happy Friday!
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.
Principal
We are excited to open the registration window for the Third Annual Community Conversations Around Race. Even though this year looks a bit different than in years past, we are excited to learn from our students first and then from each other in affinity-based conversations. Our primary goals this year remain the same, to improve our individual racial literacy and to learn from our student stories. Please use the link below or the QR code to register.

Here comes the Bus App
We're making it easier for you to track your student's bus! Starting March 1, we're transitioning to the "Here Comes the Bus" app and phasing out MyStop.
Why the switch?
"Here Comes the Bus" shows the real-time location of your student's bus and gives scheduled and actual arrival times. The new app also provides notifications when the bus is near. Currently, all large buses have the... Read More
BSD Math Placement Testing for 5th Grade Families
About 9 out of 10 BSD students will be enrolled in “Math 6/7” for math next year. If you would like your student evaluated to determine whether “Math 7/8" or “Alg/Geo/Stats 1” would be appropriate instead, please see the BSD Math Placement Testing site for important dates and information.
Bonny Slope Pre-K Program
Bonny Slope is an inquiry-based learning school that welcomes the opportunity to have a PreK in our school! We believe that children learn best through playful learning. It is this type of learning that supports our students with problem-solving and life-related skills, known as Habits of Mind. It is the focus on these skills such as persisting, listening, and understanding with empathy, thinking and communicating with clarity, taking responsible risks, creating, imagining, and innovating that is needed to be successful in kindergarten and ultimately throughout their educational experience.
Priority is given to students who qualify for free preschool based on a family's income level at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines as well as other qualifying questions on our Interest Form.
Any spots that are not filled by September 9th will be open to families who pay tuition based on our waitlist of submitted Interest Forms. Please fill out an Interest Form to start the process for PreK for 2022-2023.

Dear Art Lit Support and Lead Volunteers
Happy April! This email is an update of the latest Findley Art Literacy News:
The Japanese artist, Hokusai, is the featured artist for our first Art Lit lesson.
Our training for 'Lead' volunteers is next Thursday April 7th. During the training, Leads will be learning about:
● How Hokusai introduced landscapes as a desirable subject matter in the printmaking world of his time in Japan.
● Thephysical properties of line used in the genre and landscape prints of Hokusai.
● The art of printmaking and the value of a print, of which there is more than one copy.
● Creating our own genre and/or landscape print that exhibits the use of lines.
Lead volunteers will soon be starting to coordinate the scheduling of the "Art Lit Cart" for your class' April/May Art Lit lesson (if they haven't done so already.) Some may want to wait until after the first training to start this process. We have calendar openings up until our next training on May 12th.
