Dear HES Families,
I can’t believe we’re already at our February break! There is a lot of excitement in the building today!
On Monday of this week, we had the pleasure of gathering as a school for our All-Shark Meeting. These mornings are always a highlight, as we see everyone working together, sharing what we’ve learned, and seeing what our Student Ambassadors have to present. This month’s theme was “Problem-Solving Using the Second Step Method”: Say the problem, Think of solutions, Explore consequences, and Pick the best solution. The Student Ambassadors did an incredible job demonstrating how to use the Second Step Method by performing skits, filming videos, and making posters. I’m always amazed at the creativity of our ambassadors and their ability to share the month’s message with thought, care, and humor!
Another highlight of the week was our celebration of a fun Friday before vacation with “Twin Day.” Our Sharks were encouraged to grab a friend (or two…or three!) to dress alike. As a special treat, we welcomed the Harwich Police and Fire Departments to our lunches today, where they played “Name That Tune” with our students and our special game host, Mrs. Joy! Dance parties are always a treat for our Sharks!
While we faced some emotional challenges this month, I cannot express how much I appreciate being a part of such a thoughtful and giving community. The outpouring of support for the Bourne/Thomas family has been overwhelming and proved how much we truly care about each other at HES. See information below for opportunities to extend the Meal Train to them for a bit longer.
Often during difficult times, the first instinct is to take care of everyone else before ourselves. Because of this, I encourage you to focus on taking care of yourselves over the break. There will be two opportunities for grief counseling available to our HES community this coming week.
First, a family-friendly program titled “Navigating Your Grief” hosted by Sharing Kindness will be offered on Wednesday, February 22nd, from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm at the Harwich Community Center. Please see the flyer below with additional information regarding this program.
The second opportunity will be with Harwich Youth Counselor Sheila House. Shelia will be offering her services on Thursday, February 23rd, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Albro House, located at 728 Main Street in Harwich (the yellow antique building next to the Town Hall). This counseling is for adults only, and she can accommodate up to 12 people at a time.
As we enter February break, I hope that everyone is able to take some much-needed rest and quality time with friends and family. I wish you a peaceful week ahead and look forward to seeing our Sharks on the 27th, rejuvenated and ready for the arrival of springtime in Harwich.

Nem acredito que já estamos nas férias de fevereiro! Há muita emoção no prédio hoje!
Na segunda-feira desta semana, tivemos o prazer de nos reunir em escola para o nosso All-Shark Meeting. Essas manhãs são sempre um ponto alto, pois vemos todos trabalhando juntos, compartilhando o que aprendemos e vendo o que nossos Embaixadores Alunos têm a apresentar. O tema deste mês foi “Resolução de problemas usando o método da segunda etapa”:Sei o problema,Tpensar em soluções,Eexplorar as consequências ePique a melhor solução. Os Alunos Embaixadores fizeram um trabalho incrível demonstrando como usar o Método do Segundo Passo apresentando esquetes, filmando vídeos e fazendo pôsteres. Sempre me surpreendo com a criatividade de nossos embaixadores e sua capacidade de compartilhar a mensagem do mês com reflexão, cuidado e humor!
Outro destaque da semana foi nossa celebração de uma divertida sexta-feira antes das férias com o “Twin Day”. Nossos Sharks foram encorajados a pegar um amigo (ou dois… ou três!) para se vestir igual. Como um presente especial, demos as boas-vindas à polícia e aos bombeiros de Harwich em nossos almoços hoje, onde tocaram “Name That Tune” com nossos alunos e nossa anfitriã especial, Sra. Joy! As festas dançantes são sempre um deleite para os nossos Sharks!
Embora tenhamos enfrentado alguns desafios emocionais este mês, não posso expressar o quanto aprecio fazer parte de uma comunidade tão atenciosa e generosa. A manifestação de apoio à família Bourne/Thomas foi impressionante e provou o quanto realmente nos importamos uns com os outros na HES. Veja as informações abaixo para oportunidades de estender o Meal Train para eles por um pouco mais de tempo.
Muitas vezes, em tempos difíceis, o primeiro instinto é cuidar de todos antes de nós mesmos. Por isso, encorajo você a se concentrar em cuidar de si mesmo durante as férias. Haverá duas oportunidades de aconselhamento de luto disponíveis para nossa comunidade HES na próxima semana.
Primeiro, um programa familiar intitulado “Navegando em sua dor” apresentado por Sharing Kindness será oferecido na quarta-feira, 22 de fevereiro, das 17h às 18h30 no Harwich Community Center. Consulte o folheto abaixo com informações adicionais sobre este programa.
A segunda oportunidade será com a Conselheira Juvenil de Harwich, Sheila House. Shelia estará oferecendo seus serviços na quinta-feira, 23 de fevereiro, das 15:00 às 17:00 na Albro House, localizada na 728 Main Street em Harwich (o antigo prédio amarelo ao lado da Prefeitura). Este aconselhamento é apenas para adultos, e ela pode acomodar até 12 pessoas por vez.
Ao entrarmos nas férias de fevereiro, espero que todos possam descansar e passar um tempo de qualidade com amigos e familiares.. Desejo-lhe uma semana tranquila e ansioso para ver nossos Sharks no dia 27, rejuvenescidos e prontos para a chegada da primavera em Harwich.
