Dear Petty Families,
I would like to emphasize the crucial importance of student attendance at W.C. Petty. According to the Lake County Regional Office of Education, students are considered chronically absent if they have missed 5% of the school year, while chronic truancy is defined as missing 10% or more. As of Friday, 5% of the school year would be about 4 1/2 days of absence. Regular attendance is not just a matter of compliance; it is directly linked to academic success and overall well-being of children. When students are consistently present, they have the opportunity to fully engage with the curriculum, build strong peer relationships, and develop the necessary skills for a successful future.
To encourage school attendance, we will begin recognizing students each month for perfect attendance. Also, the classes will be competing against each other in our Attendance H.E.R.O. (Here, everyday, ready & on-time) competition. Every day a class has perfect attendance they will fill out a letter on their Attendance Hero sheet (see below). When a class fills out the first sheet, they will get a new one. The class with the most letters filled in, will win a surprise at the end of the year.
Respectfully,
Joanna Gerritsen
W.C. Petty Elementary Principal

ReferralGPS
We are committed to creating a culture of well-being of students , staff, parents and community. In an effort to continuously support this commitment, the Lake County Regional Office of Education has entered an agreement with ReferralGPS.
ReferralGPS is a web-based service focused on assisting our students, staff and community in finding local mental-health and substance use related treatment. The service compliments the districts existing systems of support as a tool for student service teams and families to connect with treatment. Along with a searchable database of treatment options, ReferralGPS provides Care Navigation to assist families on triage, appointment setting, and follow up care.
School families may access ReferralGPS in two ways:
1) Contact Student Services for the Lake County school the child attends (social workers , psychologists, counselors) to seek treatment options.
2) Visit the link at https://referralgps.com/find-help/lake to search for treatment resources or connect with a Care Navigator anonymously.
ReferralGPS takes into account all types of private and public insurance including PPO, HMO, Medicaid, and families who are uninsured or underinsured. The platform also filters by age, gender, zip code, and special requests.
ReferralGPS is available for use by district students, staff, and families at no cost. All information entered on the ReferralGPS tool is completely confidential and securely stored.
If you are interested in seeking counseling-related services at this time, please consider visiting https://referralgps.com/find-help/lake or reaching out to the Student Services team.

Information from the Technology Office 💻
iPad concerns
The technology department has seen an increase in headphone plugs breaking off in the iPads. Please help us remind students of the proper way to put headphones in the port and to never transport the iPad with the headphones attached. If the piece breaks off inside, please have your son/daughter report it to the teacher ASAP. The sound will not work with this piece broken off in the port. Please encourage your student to be very careful with the headphone jack.
Common Sense Media
The link below is a great link for parents to help teach their students about proper technology use and how to keep them safe using the internet. Antioch CCSD 34 uses some of the resources from this website as well to help with digital citizenship.
Additionally, Common Sense Media has information that can help with internet services or home devices. Please click here to find out if you qualify for free internet.
