November Update

Another month has come and gone and your school counseling team is excited to share with you all that we have accomplished this month.

To kick off October, your counselors presented to the Sophomore class and hosted a virtual Sophomore Parent Night. Parents were provided an overview of the programs and resources that Centennial has to offer. With many Sophomore parents in attendance, our counseling team discussed a variety of topics and highlighted information to support students through their academic journey. October was also filled with opportunities to explore post-secondary possibilities. Ms. Villalobos, Centennial's very own College and Career Specialist, spearheaded College and Career Kickoff month. On October 13th, with the assistance of our Husky students, 110 booths covered the lawn. At every booth, students were informed on a number of UC and CSU colleges that make up California's higher education. In addition, the program Cozy Colleges assisted in providing 62 out-of-state and international college representatives to speak and supply our students with information regarding their prospective colleges.

The support did not stop there! In order to prepare students with their postsecondary aspirations, weekly, the counseling team provided students with workshops to assist with college applications and Finacial Aid support. We will continue to provide students with a variety of workshops in the coming months.

The month of November will be filled with more support in the three areas of importance; academics, social/emotional, and college and career. These three areas are an integral part of a student's overall success. Your school counselors are dedicated to nurturing and providing students with positive skillsets to help them succeed.

Your school counselors are excited to announce the continuation of Saturday Success Academy. With the assistance of our incredible Internation Baccalaureate (IB) students, attendees will be given the opportunity to join us for the first two Saturdays of the month. Peer support will be given to students who need assistance and/or tutoring in a common academic subject area. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity!

The Dual Enrollment program allows high school students to take college level courses on their high school campus. The credits earned from completing a course will count for college credits and high school credits. Join Ms. Villalobos during our Dual Enrollment workshops for more information and to get you started.

Every month, your school counselors will highlight a college and/or career. If you would like more information regarding the month's "spotlight", make sure to reach out to your counselor or Ms. Villalobos, our College and Career Specialist.

College admissions and expectations can seem perplexed and unclear. Anne Vasquez, the Executive Director of EdSource invited six panelists, including Centennials own, Mr. Josh Godinez who is currently one of Centennial's school counselors and sits as the President of the California Association of School Counselors (CASC), to join in on the conversation. if you are a senior or parent of a senior, please view the video below and hear about the tips and tricks that California College admissions are looking for in college applications.

California Colleges has become a key component in a student's application process. As students prepare to apply to their respective Californa College, they will launch their application through CaliforniaColleges.edu. Once an application has been submitted, school counselors can then track the student's completion of both their college application and Finacial Aid application.

The purpose of the local scholarship program is to provide financial incentives to encourage students to proceed to a higher level of education. Awards range from $50 to $1,00+ and can provide tuition, lab fees, book fees, or other basic expenses for students beginning their post high school educational journey
