Primitive Cave Art By the students of Mr. Ault and Mrs. Graf
Our Masterworks were the caves of Chauvet and Lascaux.
Enduring Understanding: Expression through art is a way for civilizations to communicate and record their culture.
Significant Questions:
- What can we infer about a civilization by observing their art?
- How is art a form of communication?
- What value does art have?
- Is creativity necessary for humans to be happy?
INQUIRY Questions:
- What were the subjects of the paintings in Lascaux?
- What do they tell us about the people who painted them?
- How do the paintings at Lascaux differ from the paintings of Chauvet?
- What elements of art were used in the paintings?
Original Creation: Students created their own cave art using brown wrapping paper and pastels.
Reflection:
- What elements of art are apparent in your cave art?
- How is your artwork similar and different from the Masterworks?
- Why do humans record their culture? What purpose does art serve?
Technique: Students used oil pastels to simulate the use of charred wood and naturally found materials. Their images represent a reflection of life and art of homosapiens, and paleolithic and neolithic people.

💀 Day of the Dead Altar 💀
Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) originated in Mexico and is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. It is a traditional holiday in which families remember and honor dear ones who have passed away and celebrate the continuity of life. An altar was placed here at Roosevelt so students and staff could have a place to remember those close to them who have deceased and had the opportunity to place photographs or a small message with their loved ones' names.
Students from Ms; Brayshaw's art class, also created skull art at RMS
