Message from our Principal
NHES Families,
This past week, most of you should have received a "Welcome Back" letter in the mail along with information regarding who your child will have as his or her homeroom teacher for this school year. If not, please contact our front office sometime this week. You can call (256-851-3260) or email Mrs. Shaneyfelt (tshaneyfelt@mcssk12.org).
We are now only 10 days away from the First Day of School on Wednesday, August 2. Our new PTO president, Annie Harris, has been working with her team as well as community members to prepare for a Back to School Bash on Monday, July 31. In addition to all the fun outside from 5:00PM to 8:00PM, our lunchroom will have tables set up with back-to-school information. You can also visit your child's teacher or teachers during the following times:
- 4:45PM to 5:45PM - PK through 2nd Grade Meet & Greet (classrooms)
- 5:45PM to 6:15PM - Introduce Faculty & Parent Welcome (auditorium)
- 6:15PM to 7:15PM - 3rd through 6h Grade Meet & Greet (classrooms)
Last year, many of you expressed your appreciation when we used Title I funds to purchase school supplies for all of our students. Based on your feedback, we did so again. Book bags and kindergarten nap mats were the only items not purchased. If you have questions, contact Mrs. Hill (khill@mcssk12.org), our assistant principal.
This year, we have new school hours: 7:30AM to 2:30PM. Doors will now open at 7:05AM each morning. This is also when staff will begin unloading students from cars in the car-rider line each morning. All car-riders MUST be dropped off behind the school to keep the front clear for buses and visitors. For the first week or two of school, the car-rider line is usually quite lengthy. To avoid running into buses or getting backed-up onto Main Drive, consider using the route in the map below.

Other Important Items to Know
UPDATED CODE OF CONDUCT & DISCIPLINE
Our district has created a Back to School Dashboard with a number of useful links. Along with the MCSS Calendar, you'll also find a Parent & Student Handbook as well as a Student Code of Conduct. To ensure safe environments that are conducive to learning, there are extremely clear guidelines regarding how misbehavior will be addressed this year. Your child needs to know that safety extends to our buses as well. Students that misbehave on buses will be removed. The Code of Conduct states the following: first offense up to 5 days, second offense up to 10 days, third offense up to 20 days, and fourth offense up to 90 days. Parents, as you review the Student Code of Conduct, take time to talk with your child about which behaviors lead to which disciplinary actions.

NEW FACES AT NEW HOPE
In the coming weeks, I'll spotlight new faculty and staff. Until then, I'd like to give a warm welcome to Marlis Vermilion joining us as our new Developmental Pre-K teacher. I'm also excited to introduce Kelly Honea, Lauren Maddux, and Amanda Morgan as our new Grade 1, Grade 3, and Grade 4 teachers, respectively. All of these educators come to us with prior teaching experience, outstanding references, and a desire to teach in the New Hope community. Plus, we've got Erica Boles, Felicia Foster, Melissa Keller, and Nicole Rust as new Instructional Paraprofessionals.
NEW HOPE SPIRIT WEAR
In addition to shirts that will be for sale at our Back to School Bash, we also have a New Hope Spirit Wear Store. This is your one shop stop for school-related spirit wear.

Tribe System News
Our mission is to "empower students to LEARN, LEAD, and LOVE through partnerships with families and community." One way we promote academic excellence, leadership skills, and compassion for others is through our Tribe System.
At the end of each nine weeks, we recognize the Tribe with the most points for that nine weeks. Students can earn Tribe Points for great character, great grades, and great attendance. Students also have opportunities to participate in community service projects and Tribe competitions at different times of the year.
Last year, the Bear Tribe was recognized for having the most points for the entire school year!
