Updated Safety Procedures for the Upcoming School Year
- Upon arrival to school each morning, all staff will enter the building through the main entrance of the school. (Note-This will limit the amount of parking spaces that are available in the front parking lot.)
- Upon arrival to school, car riders will enter the building through the main entrance and the second grade hall door. (Students will no longer enter the building through the doors near the mobiles.)
- Bus riders will enter the building through the cafeteria door. This door will remain locked, and an adult will open the door for bus riders to enter the building.
- All classroom windows will remain closed and locked throughout the school day.
- Once we are done with the morning car line, all exterior doors will be locked for the remainder of the day.
- Administrators and custodians will complete a perimeter check of the school at least three times per day.
- All classrooms have access to phones that may be used for parent contact and emergency purposes.
- Classroom doors will be closed and locked throughout the school day.
- Classroom visitations for parents will be limited to special school/class events or parent conferences.
- Parents will not be allowed to eat lunch with their students.
- Parents will be allowed to drop off snacks in our main office for birthday parties/celebrations. Please notify your child's teacher ahead of time if you plan to drop off snacks for a birthday party/celebration.
- If a student forgets to bring a lunch, a parent may drop off a lunch for him/her. However, parents will not be allowed to consistency drop off lunch from local restaurants for students.
- Fire drills and lock down drills will be conducted monthly.
- Teachers will review all safety procedures with students during the first week of school and throughout the year.
- Our school's safety response team will meet monthly to review and discuss our school's drills and safety protocols.
Morning Drop Off Procedures
Please drop off your children in the mornings at your first stopping point within the car line. If you are waiting until you get to a particular door before dropping your children off, this will slow down the smooth flow of traffic in the car line. Make sure students have what they need as they exit their vehicles each morning.
Due to limited parking in the front of the school, parents will only be allowed to walk students to the cross walk between 7:00am and 7:40am. We are anticipating more vehicles in the car line, and we don't want the crosswalk to slow down the car line. I want to encourage parents to stay in the car line when dropping off students.
If students plan to eat breakfast, they will need to be in the cafeteria no later than 7:35am. The first bell will ring at 7:40am, and the late bell will ring at 7:45am. All students should be seated in class and ready to learn by 7:45am. The tardy guidelines (per district policy) will strictly be enforced at Carver. Parents who bring their children to school after 7:45am will need to sign in their students.
Afternoon Procedures for the Car Line and Early Sign-out
If students need to be signed out for afternoon appointments, please sign them out by 1:45pm. After this time, you will need to wait in the car line to pick up your children.
Remember to stay in the right lane when you drive into the entrance/car line in the afternoon. All vehicles should remain in the right lane until at least 1:45pm. The left lane needs to remain open for parents who need to pick up their kids early, emergencies, and/or for any deliveries that need to be brought into the school. Again, we ask that the left lane not be blocked before 1:45pm. Parents, we need your support with this. Please make arrangements to have car riders picked up by 2:45pm each day.
PowerSchool App/Florence 1 Blackboard App
If you have not done so already, please download these two apps. Important information regarding your child’s grades, attendance, and lunch balance will be found on the PowerSchool app. Our weekly updates/monthly newsletters, along with district news and alerts, will be sent through the Florence 1 Blackboard app.
Updates Regarding our School's Curriculum
This year, we will continue with our new reading series, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH). This ELA textbook series consists of a great deal of digital resources and will make learning more engaging and efficient for our students. In addition, we will continue with our math series, Big Ideas Math. This math program has many online resources for parents and students. We have new social studies resources (Savvas myWorld Interactive for grades 5K -2 and Gibbs Smith- The United States and South Carolina Studies for grades 4 and 5). Our students will utilize Lexia, Dreambox, and Reflex Math (math fact practice) throughout this school year. They will also participate in our Reading Renaissance program and be able to check out and read library books.
During this school year, we will resume our school vision with improved STEAM opportunities for all students through Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and Project/Problem-based learning activities in all classes (including related arts). This will be a Cognia STEM accreditation year for us. We will receive critical feedback from Cognia to assist us with improving our STEAM program. Please stay tuned for more information regarding this.
