Gonzalez Library Lowdown
September 2022
Welcome to our Gonzalez Library!
I'm also the librarian for our sister pre-k campus, Ann Windle School for Young Children. Because I am at two campuses, my schedule for the week is split equally between both schools. Nancy Dobson, our Gonzalez Parent Liasion, helps out in the library on the days I'm not at Gonzalez. My library schedule and contact information can be found at the end of every newsletter. Please email or call if you have any questions for me.
What To Expect from the Library Lowdown
In my monthly Library Lowdown newsletter, you will find tips for reading with your child, updates and news from our library, activties to do at home with your child, and free digital resources you can find online. You'll find out what we're reading for our Storytimes and information on library promotions and programs for the month.
Storytime Books for the Month
We Don't Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins
It's the first day of school for Penelope Rex, and she can't wait to meet her classmates. But it's hard to make human friends when they're so darn delicious! That is, until Penelope gets a taste of her own medicine and finds she may not be at the top of the food chain after all. . . .
A Perfectly Messed-Up Story by Patrick McDonnell
In this interactive and engaging read-aloud, bestselling author and award-winning artist Patrick McDonnell creates a funny, engaging, and almost perfect story about embracing life's messes. Little Louie's story keeps getting messed up, and he's not happy about it! What's the point of telling his tale if he can't tell it perfectly? But when he stops and takes a deep breath, he realizes that everything is actually just fine, and his story is a good one--imperfections and all.
The Book That Jake Borrowed by Susan Holt Kralovansky
Jake and his library book are in a mess in this cumulative tale, an adaptation of the classic The House That Jack Built. Repetitive phrases and simple choruses combine with cut paper and fabric collage illustrations that chronicle the events and the helpful librarian who offers book care tips.
Book Care Rules for Home and School
In September, we will learn how to take care of our books. Library books are shared with the whole school, so we want to take very good care of them at school and home! Here are some basic book care rules you and your student can use at home:
Library Book Care Rules
Keep books clean and dry
Read with clean hands
Turn pages slow and careful
Keep food and drink away from books
Keep crayons, pencils, scissors and glue away from library books.
Reading Tip of the Month
Examples of Questions to Ask While Reading
Tell me about the pictures. What is happening on this page?
How do you think the character feels? Why? When have you felt like that?
What do you think will happen next?
Ask that begin with who, what, when, where, why and how.
Online Resource of the Month

Materials Needed:
1 piece of square paper
1 piece 8.5" x 11" paper
