PRINCIPAL'S NEWSLETTER 3-14-25
Hello Marvin Ridge Parents,
Have a great weekend.
Jim Eversole
SHOWING SUPPORT FOR MR. SCOTTY!
The Marvin Ridge Mavericks have shown up to support MR. SCOTTY! Orange Out today, wrist bands, painted school rocks, numerous cards and prayers! The support and care is astounding. Thank you to our school staff, students and community!
As many of you have heard our beloved and respected Mr. Scotty Little has fallen ill and is in the hospital. Mr. Scotty, as he is known by many of our students and staff, is a big part of our school and community. He is our lead custodian, afternoon traffic director and so much more as a positive influence and supporter of everything Marvin Ridge. Not everyone knows Mr. Scotty but many do and I am sure they will agree that his presence has been nothing but positive for the many students that have come through our buildings.
People have been reaching out to offer support. His family is with him and are very appreciative of everyone that has expressed their want to support him. Social and emotional support is where we will focus our efforts at this time.
There will be a white box located on the blue cart outside the front doors during school hours if you would like to drop off a GET WELL CARD OR WISH. We will also have a box outside the pit area for students arriving by bus in the morning. These cards will be hand delivered to Mr. Scotty .
RELATED ARTS REGISTRATION FOR 2025-2026 - RISING 7th & 8th Students
All rising 7th and 8th grade students will be registering for Related Arts classes on Wednesday, March 26th during Flex time.
Please review the attached documents with your students to select the best courses for them. Each student will be allowed to select two (2) electives and two (2) alternate classes.
If your student auditioned for the musical or will be on the musical’s crew, they will need to pick one (1) elective and (1) alternative. Mrs. McHugh and Mrs. Coleman will let everyone know about their class prior to registration. If you have not heard from Mrs. McHugh and Mrs. Coleman go ahead and sign up for two (2) electives and two (2) alternatives. We can make corrections at a later date.
Ms. Johnson, the Band Director, will be providing a list of students who will be in band next year. Those students will not need to sign up for band. Students will only need to sign up for one (1) elective and (1) alternative.
PLEASE NOTE: We will do what we can to make sure students get their first choice, but with limited space in each class, we cannot always guarantee first choice placement.
If you have any questions, please call the school at 704-290-1510 and ask for Christina Sedlmyer.
HAVE YOU SEEN OUR NEW MARVIN RIDGE MAVRICK??
A big shout out and thank you to our PTSO for all of your assistance in making this happen.

IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE PORTAL INFORMATION!! PLEASE READ!!!
PARENTS - PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN A PARENT NOTE OR DOCTOR NOTE WITH STUDENT IF YOU HAVE ALREADY UPLOADED TO THE STUDENT ABSENCE PORTAL.
We will no longer be accepting paper notes or emails to excuse absences. All doctor and parent notes need to be uploaded to the Student Absence Portal. ALL PARENTS must create an account. It is important that you select Marvin Ridge Middle School when uploading notes. Scan the QR code below or use the link below to set up your account. This information is also on the Marvin Ridge Middle School website under ABOUT US - ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES.
EARLY DISMISSALS FOR STUDENTS - IMPORTANT
If you need to dismiss your student from school early, regardless if it is for a doctor appointment, or personal reason, students MUST have a parent note in the morning to receive an Early Dismissal Pass from the Front Office. If anyone other than the parent (ie. grandparent, sibling, friend) is picking up your student, their full name must be listed on the note. We will not release students to ANYONE other than the parents. Please note that the LAST EARLY DISMISSAL FOR THE DAY IS 3:15PM. Students will not be released after that. Students dismissed before 12:40pm will be maked with a full day absence.
If a student is going to a doctor appointment, it will be excused once a doctor's note has been uploaded to the Student Absence Portal. Personal, travel, sports are all unexcused.
SPORTS PROTOCOLS FOR UCPS EVENTS - IMPORTANT
ITEMS BEING DROPPED OFF - REMINDER
Just a reminder - we are still getting an incredible number of uneccessary drop offs for students. The drop off cart has been moved to the outside near the doorbell. If you must drop something off for your student, please leave it on the blue cart, tagged with their full name and grade. We will check the cart on an hourly basis through 3pm only. Items will be put on the message board when they are brought in.
LOST AND FOUND - HELP!!
As we get back into a routine, we have noticed quite a few items that have been put on the Lost & Found table in the first week of school. Many of these items do not have names on them. It would be helpful if items (ie. lunch boxes, waterbottles, Pe uniforms, ) were labeled with the students name. Once a month these items will be cleared and donated to a charity. Please encourage your student to check this table if they have left something behind.
PE UNIFORMS
PE uniform may only be purchased through the On-Line School Payment (OSP) platform. Any uniform orders placed will be delivered to the student’s homeroom.
OSP purchases may be made using this link: PE Uniform Link
TRANSPORTATION - BUS RIDERS
Edulog App
The Edulog App is being utilized for bus transportation. If your Edulog App has not been populated with bus information for the 24-25 school year, please contact the Front Office so that we can update PowerSchool. A reminder about riding the bus, all students assigned a bus must ride at least one time in 10 consecutive days. Students that do not ride during this time will be removed from the bus list and will need to be reassigned to a bus. This process can take up to 5 days.
SCHOOL NUTRITUTION
School Lunch
Breakfast: $1.75
Lunch: $3.75
Please take advantage of the options to prepay your student's meal accounts. Prepaid meal accounts help the lunch lines go faster and give students more time to eat, relax, and play. It also gives you the peace of mind of not having to worry about looking for lunch money every day or worry that it might get lost, stolen or used for other things other than lunch. Even if you still prefer to send in a check on your student's account, you can still sign up at https://www.k12paymentcenter.com/ to receive low balance alerts that would be emailed or texted to you.
Please note that food brought in from outside establishments for students to eat at lunch are discouraged. If food is brought in, the student will be asked to eat it in the front office.
Free and Reduced Meals
All parents are encouraged to complete free and reduced meal applications before the 1st day of school, if needed: https://www.lunchapplication.com. You will need your child's full name, student ID number, and information about your total household income. Contact 704-296-3000 for more information or to pursue a paper copy of the meal application.
CAR RIDER LINE
We will utilize the entire front of the school for drop-off and pick-up. (The curb painted in yellow is all designated for drop-off) Do not stop at the very front of the building. Cars need to pull past the front door to the bottom of the hill if there is room. We need to have as many cars lined up as possible to run the process quickly. Thank you for letting your student do a little extra walking if need be.
When back-up situations happen, it is important not to block the traffic circle by the Crane road entrance.
If you elect to drive your student, it is incumbent upon you to have your child here on time even if there is traffic.
If your student keeps you waiting by not coming to your vehicle. You may be asked to “circle back” into the line.
Afternoon Pickup
All students will be outside the front of the middle school building. Reiterate to your student that they need to pay attention to the line as it progresses. They will need to go to where you are directed. We ask that parents not stop where their child may be in line but pull down the line and let them come to you.
Your student needs to be picked up in the designated areas. We ask that you not park in other areas that are not monitored by staff and have your child break the rules to save time. (We call that setting a bad example.) This includes parking in neighborhoods close by and having your student walk and also picking up in the bus lot.
