KINDNESS "K"OLLECTION-- J-LEADERS

Hi Valerius Parents and Families,


The J-Leaders is a group of 4th and 5th grade student leaders who work to help Valerius in many ways.


Next week the J-Leaders will begin a new project to help students and teachers at Valerius. We will be collecting supplies to help students be successful at school. We are calling our project the “Kindness Kollection”.


Each grade will be collecting a special item to help kids at Valerius.


Kindergarteners and first graders will be collecting healthy snacks for snack time.


Second graders will be collecting headphones or earbuds so kids can listen quietly to their chromebooks without disrupting class.


Third graders will be collecting masks for students who forget theirs at home.


Fourth graders will be collecting reusable water bottles for kids who don’t have one.


Fifth graders will be collecting cases of water. If a case is too heavy, students can just bring in a few bottles at a time.


We will start collecting items on Monday and each classroom will have a box where donations can be placed.


We will be collecting things for two weeks.

Get To Know Our UCSD School Board Candidates: School Board Election Day 11/02/21

Every two years we hold School Board Elections and this year UCSD has three (3) open seats on the ballot. All three seats are four-year terms. In this article, you’ll find information about the candidate forum hosted by the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce and information about voting in the election. Plus, we requested our eight (8) school board candidates respond to the following three questions:


  1. How will your experiences as a leader support your work on the UCSD Board?

  2. What do you believe are the most pressing issues facing the District?

  3. How will the UCSD Mission and Vision guide your work as a leader in the District?

Combat Hunger Rivalry Week October 18-22: Help Us Raise Funds & Donations For Families In Need

  • Combat Hunger Rivalry Week October 18-22, 2021. All week, UHS students will be participating in a variety of fun activities to help raise money.

  • Urbandale High School is in a ‘fundraiser competition’ with Waukee Northwest High School. Fans and students can listen to STAR 102.5 Ken, Colleen, & Kurt each morning for updates on each school’s progress.

  • Our goal is to raise at least $1,500. Each dollar that is raised feeds a family of 4. Raising $1,500 will fund 6,000 meals.

  • We invite you to donate online, or plan on donating cash or non-perishable food donations on Friday, October 22nd at the UHS Football Game. UHS Student Senate will be collecting donations in front of Frerichs Field. Also, Jimmy Wright with STAR 102.5 will be broadcasting live from Frerichs Field before the Varsity Football Game from 5pm to 7pm. During the game, STAR 102.5 will announce the total amount of meals the schools have raised.

  • Combat Hunger Rivalry Week is presented by American Equity. Go J-Hawks!

Join Us In Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 – October 15

Join us in celebrating our Latinx students, families, staff, and community members during National Hispanic Heritage Month! Every year, the United States honors the history and legacy of Hispanic and Latinx people by observing National Hispanic Heritage Month. We’d like to take time to recognize and honor our students and staff of Latinx descent. We’d also like to empower and educate our non Latinx students and staff surrounding the contributions and impact Latinx people made and continue to make in our community, state, nation, and world. VOLUNTEER FROM HOME

VALERIUS VOLUNTEER SIGN UP


During my September rounding, a staff member shared an idea to seek volunteers who would be willing to support the teacher by helping to complete projects at home and send them back to school. So today, I'm reaching out to ask that if you are able/willing to support a teacher, please fill out the form above. My hope is that we have 1-2 volunteers for every teacher so they can reach out to help with things they need done. Each teacher will vary in how much they may or may not send home, but they will email first before sending items home.


If you have a high schooler and they want to complete volunteer hours for Silver Cord, I'd be happy to sign their paperwork for hours completed supporting teachers at home.
