Adams Family newsletter
January 30 - February 3
From the Principal's Desk
We hope that you all are enjoying the weekend. Thank you to our Adams PAC group for organizing a sledding day! We are lucky to have such a great PAC group.
Wednesday kicks off "I Love to Read" month. Our Adams PAC group will be celebrating this with a kick off event from 6:30-8. This is a family friendly event. We look forward to seeing all of our families there.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. We look forward to another great week at school.
February is "I love to read" month!
A reading calendar will be sent home with each student. Students will track how many minutes they read each day. If students reach their grade level minute goal, they will have earned themselves a free book. The books will be passed out after spring break.
Additionally, in each grade level the class with the highest number of reading minutes will have earned an extra free book per student in that class. Updates will be shown every Friday in February on the Redhawk News.
My request is for you to pass out calendars (these will be in your mailboxes on Monday), collect calendars at the end of the month and encourage students to participate.
FYI:
Grade level reading goals:
- K/1 - 250 minutes
- 2/3 - 400 minutes
- 4/5 - 500 minutes
Here is what counts as reading:
- Read to self at home or school
- Read to someone else at home or school
- Listen to reading at home or school

Fun Fact of the Week:
We had volunteers helping 15 times this week alone. It was so great! Projects were being tackled in the workroom (and at home), students were getting extra reading and math practice, and meals were delivered. Thank you to everyone on our volunteer team!
If you're curious what everyone is up to, check out our Current Volunteer Opportunities and join the crew! But instead of listing those items again, let me once more introduce a couple new-to-Adams programs:
WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students)
Adams Elementary is considering launching WATCH D.O.G.S., a program that is running in other schools in the district. Dads or dad-like positive male role models are encouraged to spend one day a year in school volunteering in classrooms and offering another set of eyes and ears for supervision.
Before we can move forward, we would like to know how much interest you, our guardians, have in filling this role. If this is something you would support, sign up here. We will be in touch!
Did you know?
Your Coca-Cola purchases can raise money for Adams Elementary! Coca-Cola Gives is a program that uses codes from bottle caps or codes from multi-pack boxes to earn donations for local schools. Codes can be found underneath the cap, inside the tear-off of 12-packs and inside the wrap of multi-packs of Coca-Cola products.
How to help Adams Elementary:
Save codes from Coke products (caps, or box flaps)
Either
- Create an account on www.coke.com/give
- Choose “Donate to Your Local School”
- Search "55433" and choose “Adams Elementary” as your school
- Enter the codes and click “Donate”
OR
Bring the caps and box flaps to school, so we can enter the codes on your behalf.
Thank you for your support of our school!
