Irish Gifted Academy
Week of September 4th, 2022
From the Desk of Dr. Norfleet
Happy Extended Weekend IGA family! I hope and pray that your weekend is filled with fun,
family, and a chance to recharge.
This past week has been busy as we administered our Beacon Assessments in ELA and Math on Wednesday and Thursday. These assessments will help our teachers plan instruction and help us to monitor how much our students are learning.
A big shout out and congratulations to Mrs. Brin Hogan for being selected at the Irish Gifted
Academy Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Hogan does so much more than teach Art (which she does really, really well!) at IGA. We couldn’t be happier to be represented by such a warm, caring, and beloved professional.
I also want to congratulate our Student of the Month winners for August. The character trait we highlighted this past month was RESPECTFUL, and let me tell you, that is one trait that we are not short on around IGA. Our students are the best. It was difficult to select just one student per grade. Congratulations to these students:
5th grade - Kaydon Derby
6th grade - Brayden Moore
7th grade - Aissata Diallo
8th grade - Kendall Chapman
Our RCA inspired House System (PBIS) is also in full swing, and we have begun to see points accumulate for students who exhibit positive behavior. Altruismo (the best house) is currently in the lead!
Again, I hope you all enjoy the long weekend, and GO DUBLIN IRISH! (and GO DAWGS!)
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Wow! We have completed 22 days of learning for the 2022-23 school year. Time
really does fly by, and every minute really counts!
This week, I would like to highlight Ms. Kim Daniel’s third grade class. This week in
ELA, the students read A Fine, Fine School by Sharon Creech and focused on how a
plot is a sequence of events. Students also examined irregular plural nouns in their
interactive ELA notebooks. In math, students practiced rounding numbers to the
nearest 10 or 100 on a number line and identifying numbers that round to various
tens or hundreds. In social studies, they have been learning about the major rivers
and mountain ranges of the United States and locating them on a map. The
students are also reading about weathering and erosion in their science journals
and learning vocabulary terms such as deposition, delta, and glacier.
Please be reminded that applications for the Superintendent's Advisory Council are due Wednesday, September 7th.
Our Character Trait for the month of August was Respectful. The August
Students of the Month were chosen based on that character trait. The Students
of the Month for August are as follows:
Charles Shoemake (Pre-K), Brielle Evans (Kindergarten), Iszabella Clark (1 st Grade),
Ma’Kaela Waller (2 nd Grade), Ellie Rowe (3 rd Grade), Dottie Windham (4 th Grade).
Congratulations!!! Our Character Trait for September is Cooperative.
