Happy Spring...almost!

We are gearing up for all things Spring! Course selection, planning for graduation, and the start of the spring sports season is all upon us. I did want to share some thinking behind the reminder around propper PE attire. As some of you know, we have been dealing with various Tik Tok challenges. The most recent rumor was a challenge around PE classes. Thanks for being an amazing community. Our focus is always on the safety of our students.

HS Students will make selections March 28-April 3 online on their own time
HS Counselors will review course selections and meet with students, if necessary, April 4-8

All teachers of required core academic courses must make a course recommendation:

• English and Math (9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students)
• Science and History (9th and 10th-grade students)
• World Language (9th-grade students)

Teachers of elective courses can also make recommendations (Music, Art, Business, etc.).

MS Teachers will make recommendations in IC starting April 4th through April 8th.

This weekend, KP Model UN attended BC High's 30th Annual Model United Nations Conference, our first in-person conference since the beginning of the pandemic. Participants included both long-time members and first-time attendees, and our team engaged in simulations of a wide variety of topics, ranging from illegal poaching to the impact of climate change on Boston. Our entire delegation's preparation, participation, and conduct were testaments to the exceptional instruction and support they receive across our school community.

A full list of attendees and their positions is attached; in particular, I'd like to acknowledge Gina Brown for winning a Best Position Paper award and Frank Merritt and Lakshya Jain for winning the People's Choice awards in their respective committees.

Our movements against these social norms do not only shake history but also write history. Don't wait for change to occur in your community. Be the change.

COVID-19 At- Home Antigen Test Program

As King Philip Regional Schools continues this program, test kits for those who opted in will be distributed during the lunch block at both the High School and Middle School. If you opted in, please remind your student to pick up their test on Tuesdays. The next distribution will be on March 15, 2022. We order test kits in advance based on your opt in participation and do not want to waste tests.

Internet Safety Presentations

Katie Greer, digital safety expert, will present to students in grades 7-10 during the day and to parents in the evening on Thursday, March 10. For students in grades 9 and 10 she will talk about online reputation, social media, privacy, digital health, digital risks and opportunities related to employment and college admissions, and sexting.

She will return in the evening for an in- person presentation for parents/caregivers at 6:30 pm at King Philip Middle School.

Wellness Advisory Committee

We are seeking at least one high school and one middle school parent representative to participate as members of the King Philip Wellness Advisory Committee. The KPRPS Wellness Committee is established to ensure that the District has a system in place to deal effectively with school health issues and is responsible for making recommendations concerning school health/wellness policies, programs and practices. We meet approximately 4 times per year, currently on Tuesdays at 1 pm. If interested, please contact Dot Pearl, pearld@kingphilip.org.

Interface Referral Services of William James College has resumed their regular intake of new requests for referrals from families seeking counseling support for their children. Through grant funding, the four districts of King Philip, Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham have renewed their contract with William James College Referral Service for 2022. Matched referrals to a licensed mental health provider best meets the location, insurance, and specialty needs of the caller. Please note this is a helpline, not an emergency hotline.

An important goal of the King Philip’s High School World Language Department is to adopt the principles of proficiency in world language instruction. This is a progressive philosophy that is spreading across the nation with the advancement of the Seal of Biliteracy: a movement in which King Philip is proud to participate! In April this year, we are fortunate to administer to students enrolled in AP French/Spanish language the opportunity to take the STAMP 4S exam.

We at KP Cares understand that the cost of attending prom can add up quickly. We feel that all students should have the opportunity to attend without the stress of associated costs.

To help in this matter KP Cares has been busy collecting prom dresses.

Students can come and choose a FREE dress from a wide selection of donated dresses. We have lots of different styles, sizes and colors to choose from.

NEW LIFE FURNITURE SPRING CLEANING COLLECTION DRIVE

KP Cares has signed up to support New Life Furniture Bank in Walpole. New Life Furniture provides household furniture and items for individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness into permanent housing.

Members of our group will be volunteering our services at the end of March.

We are also doing a collection drive for new or gently used household items to bring with us.

We will be hosting a Spring Cleaning Collection drive
