Notes from the Principal
Good call on the snow day, right? It was really coming down. We had a lot of activities planned for Friday, but it's better to be safe when transporting our students and staff on such a snowy day. Here are some changes:
- Family Math Night - moved to Tuesday, February 18th.
- 5th Grade DARE Graduation moved to Thursday February 13th from 8:30-9:30 in the cafeteria.
- 100 Day Celebration - right away!
Please note in the PTO news that I am doing a presentation on our Consolidated Funded Programs. We are required to give this on an annual basis. I promise it will be quick and interesting (hopefully). Child care will be provided! I hope you can join us and learn how active our PTO is in the enrichment of Orchard School.
We are receiving a number of elementary age-appropriate flyers each week. Scroll down to the bottom to see all the offerings in South Burlington.
Have an awesome week; take some time to read with your child.

February Farm-to-School News
This month we are learning how to use clues like color, and plant part (root, stem, leaf, fruit), to understand what food will give our bodies. We’re highlighting the color purple with red cabbage and purple radish slaw, and we’re drizzling an orange-honey dressing over top.
February Farm to School: Color Slaw Recipe
Dressing: 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar, 2 tbsp Olive Oil, 1 tbsp Honey, 2 tsp Orange Zest, a pinch of both Salt and Cumin
Whisk together
Salad: Slice purple and green cabbage into small pieces (cutting across the head horizontally allows the cabbage to fall apart into little strips), add cabbage pieces to the bowl. Shred radish with a cheese grater or food processor. Add cabbage and radish. Pour dressing and toss.
Enjoy!

MPV Presentations
MPV upcoming community meetings. We have one this coming Wednesday, February 12 from 7-9 pm in SBHS Caf 2. A brief presentation followed by information tables/booths - people can have their questions answered one on one by the architects, board members, and administrators. We have also just added a Saturday info session! Based on feedback. That one will also be in SBHS Caf. 2, February 15 from 10-noon. Light refreshments provided! These two are flexible formats - come in for the entire time or pop in and out, especially during the second hour. Our project specific website is: www.southburlingtonvtschools.com.
Not sure if you had seen this, but the 7 minute RETN video on existing conditions is complete and, in my opinion, so well done. https://www.southburlingtonvtschools.com/videos.
