Middle School Update
Thank you parents for attending our fall conferences. Our staff really appreciates the time and effort dedicated to working as a team to help our students be successful! Good sleep and technology routines were a topic of discussion in nearly every conference as we created plans for moving forward this winter. The Reardan PE and Health Department is challenging all students to improve their sleep and technology habits during the month of December: have a dedicated study time each evening with no distractions, shut off all screen activities 30 minutes before bedtime, and ensure that students get 8-10 hours of sleep each night. We can do this!
Mrs. Hamilton’s students received their first aid cards after completing their training course this week. We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Firefighter Doug and Linda Dougherty for dedicating their time to ensure that our students are well prepared to help with first aid if needed. Mrs. Vesneske’s science students are studying physics and motion by creating some amazing roller coasters. December 14th they will be teaching elementary students these concepts and demonstrating their roller coasters. Students in Mrs. Vesneske’s last month brainstormed school related problems, researched them, and proposed solutions. One pair of students researched adding mirrors to the elementary restrooms. They sent their proposal to our amazing Facilities Director, Jim Porter, who took the time to listen and respond. Eight mirrors were installed in the restrooms this week, and the students were ecstatic with the success of their proposal. Thank you Jim for listening to our students!
We wrapped up November with our Character Trait winners who exemplified the trait of Gratitude along with our honor roll students. We followed the assembly with minute to win it games for all students who had no major behavior referrals this month. In December we will focus on the trait of Kindness. One way to help us beat Davenport in WINTERFEST is by bringing in food for the Reardan Food Bank.
Thank you for checking to make sure students have hats/gloves/jackets for going outside on cold winter days. We appreciate you very much!
Options Program Highlight
The Options Program has high school students helping teach classes this quarter. Lillie and Raegan are teaching the kids how to create and use puffy paint!
Health and PE Technology Challenge
The Health and PE Departments would like to challenge all families from
now until Winter Break to work together and set a distraction free
homework time in the evening. This means no phones. No TVs. No
earphones or earbuds. Eliminate all technology distractions during this
dedicated Homework time.
We would also challenge each of you to remove all technology from
nighttime routines at least 30 minutes before bedtime to ensure restful
sleep each night.
Remember teens need eight to ten hours of sleep each night so ensuring
that homework time is completed distraction free and technology is
removed before bed, sleep habits, as well as academic success, should
improve.

Security Update - Brad Eylar
Hi Families,
Going into the holidays and the winter break your family might be watching more movies or tv. I was told at this week’s RECAP night about an awesome tool for you to check out. Have you ever put on a movie you watched years ago (with fond memories) to watch with the family just to have super inappropriate language 10 minutes in (Daddy’s Home not appropriate for 2nd grade)?
IMDB online and their app has everything you would ever want to know about movies and tv, that includes a very detailed and helpful Parent Guide. The Parents Guide will show the rating, inappropriate categories like violence, drugs, profanity, frightening, etc. It also has details on what is in the movie that is cause for concern. It gets very detailed to help you make a decision on whether your child is ready to watch it. I know I should have checked Daddy’s Home beforehand. After seeing IMDB there is no way I would have turned it on.

Dear Parents,
We have had an increase in students bringing vape devices to school. After investigation, we are finding that the majority of our students are obtaining the devices by stealing/taking them from parents or older siblings. I am asking you that if you vape to please keep your device locked up and not accessible to your child. We are taking this very seriously.
Thanks,
JoLynn Ray
High School Principal

We have had a number of students wearing hoods and hats in the building. These have become a distraction to student learning. Beginning December 4th, the elementary staff will ask students to remove their hats and hoods once they enter the building. Throughout the month of December, we will have weekly raffle drawings where students may earn prizes for following the expectation in the building. Special exceptions will be made for elementary hat days or when students have earned hats as a class reward.
As winter weather approaches, please send your child to school with a warm coat, boots, and gloves. Our students have outdoor recess as long as the temperature is above 20 degrees and there is not excessive precipitation. It is important to label coats, hoodies, etc. with your child’s name so it can be returned to them if found unattended.
