With tremendous support from the UHS PTO, the Technology and Engineering Student Association is again making and donating over 100 wooden toys for the Toys for Tots program this holiday season.

UHS is also serving as a drop-off location. Collection boxes are located in the UHS main office lobby and in front of the Technology and Engineering Department. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy. All toys are distributed right here in Chester County.

The UTHON committee leaders and members put on an awesome event for just under 300 Patton students. They have been planning for 3 months and experienced true service-learning while serving as positive role models for their peers, as well as the Patton students. Those Patton students, their teachers, families, and other community members banded together to blow through the $15,000 fundraising goal, raising $36, 730.15 in just 2 weeks.

This couldn’t have been done without the help of the Patton admin team, Colleen O'Neill, Laurie Palic, John Walsh, the Patton PTO, as well as the always exceptional custodial team at the high school. All helped provide proper and safe planning, supervision, food donations, and the result was a fantastic night that did the hearts good of all who attended.

As an extension of UTHON, Patton's incredible efforts have officially put them over $50,000 towards their overall goal of $100,000. AND IT'S ONLY NOVEMBER!!!!

The Unionville High School Student Art Show Committee is pleased to announce that Josie Tucker has been selected as the UHS Featured Student Artist for 2021-2022. Additionally, Jessica Hall has been awarded 1st honorable mention and Mariel DiNatale has been awarded 2nd honorable mention.

Local artist and Student Art Show Committee Member Sarah Snyder-Dinsel says “I am constantly amazed at the caliber of artwork created by UHS students. It is a pleasure to view their work and our decision is never an easy one.”

Miss Tucker’s art will be featured in the UHS Student Art Show along with works by Miss Hall and Miss DiNatale, as well as other UHS art students.

Usually held in conjunction with the Unionville Art Gala fundraiser in November, this year’s UHS Student Art Show will be an in-person event in May 2022 at Unionville High School, due to the fact that the 2021 Art Gala was virtual.

At the end of October, Hillendale held its annual Husky Hustle. It was great to see the HES community come together for such a fun event. Congrats to all the participants who crossed the finish line!

In December, Dr. Sanville will be taking Java with John on the road to each of our schools to talk with our students! Sharing with the Superintendent is an informal session for students to sit down with Dr. Sanville for a casual conversation.

This is an opportunity for students to ask questions, share their thoughts, or just listen in on the conversation. All are welcome whether they have any questions or just want to listen to the latest update from Dr. Sanville. See the times and dates below for when Sharing with the Superintendent will be at your school!

This Veterans Day, schools across our district celebrated and recognized those who served our nation - thanking them for their selfless service, courage, and dedication to protecting our nation and our freedom.

Students at Charles F. Patton Middle School recognized Veterans Day with a special Zoom assembly where Jeremiah Pauley from the Wounded Warrior Project spoke about his experience serving our country and serving others. Patton Hawks also reached their goal and sold all 500 WWP bracelets where every penny from the sales benefits the Wounded Warrior Project.

Hillendale Huskies gathered outside this morning to celebrate and thank special veterans in their lives. They expressed gratitude to all those who have served and continue to serve our country during their Veteran’s Day Ceremony.

Unionville Elementary School welcomed some additional Stars to school today! Students introduced their family members who are veterans during an assembly that included patriotic musical performances. They honored all those who have served and continue to serve our country during this special Veterans Day celebration.

The double-turf fields are officially open and ready for the students of Unionville-Chadds Ford to call home! Part of the Long Range Facilities Plan, this facility was built with the goal of health and wellness for our students and will be used by our teams, PE classes, Marching Band, and many students for years to come! Thank you to everyone whose vision, support, and hard work helped make this possible!

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced that 21 Unionville High School students have been named Semifinalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

“The Unionville High School community is extremely proud of the 21 Members of the Class of 2022 who have been named as this year's National Merit Semifinalists,” stated Dr. James Conley, UHS Principal. “While these students are being recognized for their academic prowess, what is most commendable about this year's recipients, however, is their integrity, service, and resilience. Over the past 18 months, the leadership demonstrated by these students to improve our school community is exemplary.”

Approximately 16,000 Semifinalists were named in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships in which students are entered by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) - one that serves as an initial screen of program entrants each year. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. This includes providing information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

What a great Homecoming Game on October 9! It was wonderful to see so many students and community members in the stadium to celebrate homecoming. Congratulations to our Football Team on their win against Kennett! Go Longhorns!

National School Lunch Week was celebrated October 11-15. We are thankful to all of our food service staff for making delicious and nutritious school lunches possible for each of our students every day!

UCF Food Services spent the last week of Farm-to-School month in each of our elementary school cafeterias giving students the chance to taste test three different types of local apples from Frecon Farms. The days following the taste test, the apples were available for students to select as part of their school lunch. Our high school and middle school students were also able to enjoy the apples as part of their school lunch selection.

During the last week of October, the UCFSD Life Skills classes enjoyed a presentation by the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company. The students learned about fire safety, signs of fire, and fire prevention and were very excited to go inside the fire truck.

After an outstanding season, the Unionville girls tennis team traveled to Hershey PA to compete in the PIAA championship tournament. They won during the semifinals on Friday, which qualified them to compete in the PIAA State Finals for the state championship on Saturday. Some great tennis was played, but in the end, the team finished runner-ups - still bringing home a giant trophy to mark the exciting moment. Second place in the entire state is a remarkable accomplishment! Congratulations to the coaches and team on such an incredible season! This was certainly a year to remember for Unionville Tennis. We are so proud of what this young team has achieved. The future is bright!

The Unionville High School Crew team returned home after an intense weekend of competition at the largest regatta in the world: The Head of the Charles, in Boston, Massachusetts.

All three boats competing for Unionville successfully finished the race, with the Men’s Youth 4 dominating their event. Starting the race as 58 out of 84 boats, the crew flew down the course to finish with the 5th fastest time. This medal-winning crew included coxswain and Captain, senior Alenka Doyle, who steered a flawless line through the course. In the stroke seat was senior Dylan Huffman, followed by junior Ryan O’Leary, senior Sam Duncan, and junior Captain, Will Kolman.

As a head race, rowers compete against the clock after being released in 15-second intervals. The course is three miles (4,800 meters) long and stretches from the start at Boston University's DeWolfe Boathouse near the Charles River Basin to the finish just after the Eliot Bridge and before Northeastern University's Henderson Boathouse. The course is renowned for being challenging for crews to navigate without incident or penalty. The course contains six bridges to safely navigate.

After an entire year off the water due to Covid-19, rowing on ergs (stationary rowing machines) in the parking lot of Unionville High School, the team has been intensely practicing for his prestigious race. There are far more entries than accepted boats. A finish in the top 50% of entries guarantees an entry the following year, so the team will be returning next year to complete.

As a sport dominated by club teams and private and boarding schools, a public high school program performing and placing this high is a notable achievement. Starting in 2014, and now in its 7th year, the club has steadily grown to a roster size of 60 athletes.

Also competing and spotted at the Head of the Charles, was Unionville High School and Drexel University Alumnus Justin Best, who rowed for the USA at the Tokyo Olympics last summer.
