As we start wrapping up quarter three, our ukulele club is getting ready for their final performances. There are two shows coming up that are open to the public if you would like to come and watch!
The First Annual Ukulele Festival

Performances by East High, Rogers Park Elementary, and other school from around the district.
End of Quarter Performance at Rogers Park
Wednesday, March 6th at 6:30 pm

On another note, now is also the time to start thinking about Talent Show! If your student wants to audition for this year's talent show in May, auditions will be taking place on April 17th and 18th. Now is the time to start planning out an act! All performances must be under two (2) minutes long and be performance ready during the auditions. If you need any help, feel free to email me at lavy_karen@asdk12.org.
News From Nurse T
ASD is still following the CDC guidelines for positive COVID cases. If a student becomes sick and tests positive for COVID, ASD asks that students please isolate at home for 5 days from the beginning of illness or the day that they took a positive test, whichever was first.
After those 5 days, students may return to school if they are feeling well enough and have been fever free for 24 hours, so long as they wear a mask for an additional 5 days, completing the 10 days from illness onset/positive test.
Please feel free to reach out to Nurse T if you have any questions.
Notes from the Library
Thank you to the PTA for supporting our Valentine’s for Veterans community service project. Rogers Park students in grades K-6 had an opportunity to make over 400 valentines that will be delivered to veterans at the VA hospital and domiciliary. Their messages of good will and thanks were truly amazing. Thank you to all who participated. A big thank you to Denise Flake, our amazing volunteer, who prepared the materials for the students to use to make their valentines.
Student Council Update
The Student Council has been busy planning for Read Across America Week as well as a Spring Candy Grams fundraiser. We recently purchased a camera for the Yearbook Club and we plan to purchase about 35 new sleds for the school. We are using the funds raised by last year’s student council to make these purchases. Finally, our Food Drive was a success as we collected 6 bags of food for the Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who donated cans of food!

Rogers Park Read-a-Thon
Rogers Park, get ready for the 2nd Annual Rogers Park Read-a-Thon!! The Read-a-Thon begins on February 26 and ends on March 22, 2024
The read-a-thon is a fundraiser, like our skate-a-thon, but now students will get sponsors to support their reading.
To participate in the Read-a-Thon, parents will need to sign up their child. Every student will get an information sheet about how to sign up and earn prizes this week.
There will be prizes for everyone who signs up to participate. There are also prizes if your family shares news of this event, for getting sponsors, AND for how much you read.
There will be special prizes for the class with the most participation, for the student with the most sponsors, and a prize for the student who read the most minutes!
All funds from the Read-a-Thon go back to the library to ensure we have the books and materials students and staff really love. We are working to replace the computers in the library as the school district will remove all but two this summer.
Let’s get reading Rogers Park!

Ice Skating Volunteers Appreciated
We are entering the golden period of recess ice skating at Rogers Park. The temps are be warmer. The sun is a little bit brighter. And our kids have mostly figured out our routines.
If you can spare an hour or two on Thursdays and/or Fridays between now and Spring Break (and maybe afterwards too), please sign up to help tie skates. We have many open spots where we could use your help.
Even if they forget to say thank you, I know our students really appreciate being able to skate. And Ms. Singleton and I really appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Ben and Jill
Lost and Found
Our lost and found is over flowing right now. Please make sure you have your students check the lost and found by the end of February. March 8th we do plan on donating what is left.
Girls on the Run
Registration is now open for our Spring Girls on the Run season, which begins Feb 26th- but we need your help! We are still looking for TWO more coaches to make our team complete- Good news, you don't have to be a runner to coach (you don't even have to like running), you just have to believe in the mission of helping 3rd-6th grade girls be joyful, healthy and confident.
The ten week session begins Feb 26th (practice days will be Mon/Wed), if you're interested in learning more about coaching one OR two days a week, please reach out to Shaina Seidner at coaches@gotrsouthcentralak.org, or Ms. Hale/Ms. Sweeney. Parents/guardians who coach and have a child on the team receive a free registration.
Did we mention- online registration is NOW OPEN!

The 2024 SCCS Family Survey is Available- February 20th
The SCCS is a voluntary statewide survey taken by students grades 3-12, all school-based staff, and ASD families since 2006, developed by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) in partnership with Alaska Association of School Boards (AASB) and Panorama Education. It measures school climate, how connected students feel to adults and peers, social and emotional learning, and observed risk behaviors at school or school events.
ASD uses the data in strategic planning, evaluating programs, and improving community-school relationships both at the school and district level.
Research has shown that when students feel safe, connected, and engaged in their schools they are more successful learners and exhibit fewer risk behaviors.
