WOOD WEEKLY
April 1, 2021
Good Morning Plainville Families,
I hope we are all having a great week and looking forward to a long weekend. There will be no school tomorrow, Friday, April 2, 2021. Please take time to enjoy the weekend, curl up with a good book and spend time outside with family.
Rest up as Monday, April 5 is right around the corner and we are excited to have all our students back together in class. Just a reminder that only those students who are fully remote will be learning virtually. The only exception would be those students who have been impacted with reasons surrounding Covid-19. This requires a pre-approval from the nurse. All other circumstances i.e. cold, allergies, travel will need to take a traditional sick day moving forward. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue to navigate changes. It already has been quite a year, but having the extraordinary staff at the Wood School is key in making this all work for our Plainville families. Their dedication, understanding and ultimate flexibility helped in making this year what it has been. Please remember to give each one of them a shout out as they are the real superstars in all of this.
Parent drop off will continue in the circle at 8:40. Pick-up will be in the circle as well as the front driveway from 2:40-2:45. After 2:45, we ask parents to use the circle. Buses are loaded at 3:00 for departure. For those of you now taking or continuing to ride the bus, please check out the routes as they may have slightly changed to meet the needs of new riders.
We are proud to welcome back Mrs. Meghan Olynciw in the music room. She will be with us Monday-Wednesday teaching music. Mrs. Natalie O’Neil will also be joining the Wood School staff teaching art on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Remote classes will have art and music first thing in the morning, 8:55-9:35. ALL fully remote students will have music on Mondays and art will be held on Thursdays. Remote students should check in with their homeroom teacher for an updated schedule.
We are also looking for playground donations. Any new or gently used ball, Frisbees, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, among other equipment would be greatly appreciated. We are planning to have class bins for students and are hoping for a plethora of materials so students will not have to share. All materials will be wiped down after recess. Thank you in advance for your donation. They can be left in the lobby collection bin or your child can bring them to their classroom teacher.
We are thrilled to announce the Bloomin' 4 Good Program, a brand new program from Stop & Shop that works to fight hunger in our local communities, will be partnering with us. In this program, every $9.99 Bloomin' 4 Good Bouquet sold sends a $1 donation to a hunger organization local to the store in which it was purchased.
For the month of May 2021, Plainville Public Schools Food Pickup has been selected to receive a $1 donation for every $9.99 Bloomin' 4 Good Bouquet with the red circle sticker (pictured below) sold at the store located at 109 Taunton Street, Plainville MA.
Please look for the red circle sticker on the bouquet and help support Plainville Schools.
Cooking with Class
It is often said that “food is the ingredient that binds us together"! The Wood School Staff would like to spread the togetherness with a community cookbook. Each week one grade level will get notification and the link to our ‘Class Cookbook’ to celebrate our cultures, families, and community! We know that many families have special recipes that have been handed down from family member to family member for generations while others have created their own recipes that have been shared among friends and those closest to us. Sometimes these recipes are cooked frequently and sometimes they are recipes saved for special occasions and holidays. Please dig out those recipe books or unlock the cooking memories and share your deliciousness with our community. Just keep an eye out for the ‘Class Cookbook’ email to add your tasty touch to our recipe book.
Drives
We are ready to kick off our ‘Bags of Hope’ drive. Please use our Amazon registry that coordinates materials needed for the ‘bags of hope’ our students will be putting together for those in need. Items such as tissues, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer wipes, chapstick and more will be collected and packaged for those in need of a little ‘hope.’ The amazon link provides you with the opportunity to donate items in need, at a fairly inexpensive cost, without the hassle of transporting it to school. Please feel free to send in these items if purchased outside of Amazon as well. We will have collection bins in the lobby. This is a quick and easy way to support others, send some hope their way and fill your own heart with promise. Happy shopping!
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Please be certain to sign up for your parent/teacher conference on either Wednesday April, 7 or Thursday, April 8. An online schedule should have been sent to you. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher if you are in need of an appointment. All conferences will be via Zoom.
