ThunderRidge Weekly Update

Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
The ThunderRidge staff would like to say thank you for your support in passing the 5A initiative. This would not have been possible without many of you getting the word out and supporting the amazing staff we have in our school and district. We are so grateful to be part of an amazing community. THANK YOU!!
Unfortunately, initiative 5B, which would have been for building/construction improvements, did not pass. The district will discuss when they will put this initiative on the ballot again to help support the needs of our buildings.
There are only four weeks until semester finals. Please encourage your students to take advantage of the support we offer to get any academic help they may need. Continue to have conversations and check on grades to see where your student's progress is before finals. If you have any questions, have your student talk with teachers for support. You will find the finals schedule below.
Finally, we would like to wish our community members who have served, or are serving in the military, a Happy Veterans Day. Thank you for all you do.
Have a great weekend. We have one more week of classes until Thanksgiving Break.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

A Message From Grizzly Gratitude
Hello Grizzly Gratitude community! There is so much excitement this time of the year. We are thrilled to share that we have another amazing sponsor for our November gift of gratitude for the TR teachers and staff. Dr. Sarira Martin, DDS, PC (Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Highlands Ranch) will be providing pumpkin pies from Costco for the 170+ teachers and staff. We are incredibly grateful for her generosity!
The conference meal in October was awesome! Once again, thank you to Christie Haworth with Grandview Landscape and Irrigation for sponsoring dinner from Cranelli’s. It was sooo appreciated!! Also in October …because of the generosity of so many of our Grizzly Gratitude community we were able to surprise the teachers/staff with treat bags for Halloween!
Looking ahead to December….we will continue our annual “GIFT CARD TREE” tradition!! We would love to fill a lighted tree with a variety of gift cards for every teacher and staff member at ThunderRidge High School. Counselors' Corner
Career planning tip: So what do you want to be when you grow up? High school students are grappling with this very question. One of the ways to answer that question is more about knowing yourself. What are your interests, values, skills, and personality? Those are the keys that help unlock the many career paths available to students.
Mindful Minute
Are you missing out on moments to connect with others? Loved ones, family or friends? Become a more mindful listener by genuinely listening when other people are talking to you. Try to avoid multitasking and practice active listening skills, such as reflecting and paraphrasing: “You seem very upset about this fight with your friend”. Try it and see your connection to others grow stronger! Check out the full Counseling Newsletter here!

IB Update
In addition to students' academic pursuits, one of the cornerstones of the International Baccalaureate Programme is the engagement in Creative, Active, and Service (CAS) based learning. This week we would like to specifically talk about service learning and volunteerism for all of our TRHS Grizzlies.
Engaging in service learning offers numerous benefits for high school students. Here are several reasons why students should consider participating in service learning:
Real-World Application: Service learning allows students to apply academic concepts to real-world situations. This practical experience enhances their understanding of classroom material and helps them see the relevance of what they're learning.
Develops Civic Responsibility: Service learning fosters a sense of civic responsibility and community engagement. Students learn about the importance of contributing to their communities and gain a deeper understanding of social issues.
Builds Empathy and Compassion: By working directly with individuals or communities in need, students develop empathy and compassion. They gain a broader perspective on the challenges others face and are more likely to become socially conscious and compassionate individuals.
Enhances Interpersonal Skills: Service learning often involves collaboration and communication with diverse groups of people. Students develop valuable interpersonal skills, including teamwork, leadership, and effective communication.
Personal Growth: Through service learning, students are exposed to new experiences and challenges that contribute to personal growth. They may discover new interests, strengths, and areas for improvement, fostering self-awareness and resilience.
Provides Networking Opportunities: Engaging in service learning can create opportunities for students to connect with community leaders, professionals, and other like-minded individuals. These connections can be valuable for future academic and career pursuits.
Boosts College and Career Readiness: Colleges and employers often value applicants who demonstrate a commitment to community service. Service learning experiences can enhance a student's resume or college application, setting them apart from other candidates.
Promotes Critical Thinking: Service learning encourages students to think critically about societal issues and how they can contribute to positive change. It challenges them to analyze problems, consider different perspectives, and develop innovative solutions.
Fosters a Sense of Purpose: Knowing that their efforts make a meaningful impact on others can give students a sense of purpose and fulfillment. This sense of purpose can contribute to a positive outlook on life and motivate students to continue contributing to their communities.
Encourages Lifelong Volunteering: Engaging in service learning at a young age can instill a lifelong commitment to volunteering and community service. Students who develop a habit of giving back are more likely to continue contributing to their communities as adults.
In summary, service learning provides high school students with a range of benefits, including practical application of academic knowledge, personal growth, and the development of essential life skills as global citizens.
