A Message from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar Families,
It was great to see all the virtual students last week for STAAR testing! Thank you for your patience with the rough start we had on Tuesday due to state issues. Thursday was much better and the students were great! Please be sure to mark your calendars for the rest of our STAAR testing dates and avoid scheduling appointments on these days. We will send specific information about testing as we get closer.
STAAR Testing Dates
May 4 – Algebra I EOC – 8th grade
May 6 – STAAR Science – 8th grade
May 7 – STAAR Social Studies – 8th grade
May 11 – STAAR Math – 7th and 8th grade
May 12 – STAAR Reading – 7th and 8th grade
This is a very busy time of year and we want to be sure to get all important information to everyone so please be sure to read through the newsletters, check our website, read the skyward messages sent and, as always, give us a call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Sonya Pitcock
DID YOU KNOW: ALLEN ISD IS AT RISK OF LOSING APPROXIMATELY $3.03 BILLION OF ITS TAX BASE ON MAY 1, 2021
Allen ISD will hold a special election, known as an Attendance Credit Election, on May 1 seeking voter approval for the district to pay recapture by purchasing attendance credit from the State with local tax revenue. An attendance credit is simply the name given for a district to equalize its wealth through recapture payments.
The district has paid recapture funds by purchasing attendance credit from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Until this year, the district has used a state exemption to have recapture funds taken out of its annual state funding without the need for a special election.
The special election is required by the state due to changes by Texas House Bill 3 in the 2019 legislative session. Allen ISD will only have to hold this election one time.

CMS has loved the partnership with the STEAM Ambassador Program this year and are excited to share they are offering sign ups for STAAR review/help. Click here for more information about STEAM Ambassadors.
Power of One Donations
Our 7th grade Humanities students are working on their Power of One projects. Students had to find a way one person could make an impact in their world by looking into things they are passionate about. Several projects involve giving to others in many different forms!
The week of April 19-23 we will be collecting donations for the following groups:
- Children’s Hospital – New Toy Drive ( https://www.childrens.com/get-involved/donate/donate-items)
- Allen Animal Shelter – Pet Supply Drive (food, collars, leashes, beds, treats, etc.)
- Buckner Children’s Home – Supply drive (socks, bedding, undergarments for children, school supplies, hygiene supplies)
- Lending Library in Allen - Book drive (K-12 books)
- Samaritan Inn - Canned Food/Toiletries
- Allen Vet Hospital – Animal toys and blankets
- Texas Health Presby Allen – Monetary donations via Go Fund Me, click here
- Children’s Advocacy Center – gently used clothes, shoes, belts, toys
Donations can be brought to school by students throughout the week and dropped off in the office boxes designated for each organization. Students will receive a techno lunch pass for their donations to any group. At-home learners can drop off supplies in the front of the school each day. There will be boxes designated there as well.
