The 7th grade science team at Diamond Valley is always interested in finding ways to extend their lessons beyond the classroom. Mr. Saldana and Mr. Monge have started a challenge across HUSD to begin doing #HUSDlunchtimescience. As you watch the video you will notice students using academic language to discuss scientific concepts learned in class. As always, our goal here at Diamond Valley is to spark an interest in students that ignites a fire for learning. Kudos to our 7th grade science team.

Seventh grade students engaged in a very cool trading caravan activity. Students had to travel today in a caravan from their classroom to the library. On their journey they were stopped by "raiders" who asked them questions about the history unit they are studying. If they answered correctly, they got to keep their snacks. If not, the raiders took their items. Once in the library the students engaged in a silent bartering activity with the snacks they brought from home. Kudos for an engaging lesson!

On Monday September 30, 2019 Diamond Valley Middle School participated in the kindness campaign. DVMS counselors spent many days planning a school-wide experience to remind students of the importance of not bullying, and being kind. Their is power in kindness. All of the girls were in the MPR for a presentation from the founders of the Kindness Campaign, as well as a chance to make kindness pledges and apologies for moments where they did not support each other. Pictures below show kindness posters that have been put up all over campus. The boys on campus were divided up into classrooms where they watched the movie, "Bully" and participated in a Socratic seminar with questions around the topic of bullying. We are so proud of our kids and the efforts being made to support a positive culture.

The percentage of students suspended

The percentage of students chronically absent

Goal 3 - Create a culture and climate that engages all students and families.

"Diamond Valley Middle School will increase students attendance by 2% this year, from 93% to 95%."
