Wildcat Weekly

Principal's desk:
Greetings Wayne Thomas Family,
I would love to share with you one of my favorite programs at Wayne Thomas. Each year our team works to pair our youngest Wildcats with our 5th grade veterans. This program allows our veteran Wildcats to teach our Kindercats what it means to be leaders. This special program is unique to Wayne Thomas.
It looks different across settings and is catered to individual student needs, but it is truly special in any situation. Some of the things 5th graders help with include:
- Running games for kindergarten students at recess
- Helping students pack or unpack for school
- Walking students to the bus
- Simply popping into class to say "hi!"
See the pictures below to see a small glimpse of this special initiative!

THE SEASON OF GIVING
We are grateful for the continued generosity of our families throughout the school year to fund the programs and activities that make Wayne Thomas School a wonderful place. Looking for ways to make a meaningful contribution this season?
Staff Appreciation Holiday Fund: Donations will be used to thank our staff with a year-end appreciation gift. (Last year our staff got awesome WT hoodies and meals!) All donations are optional, anonymous and pooled together to cover a gift for every member of our staff. (Please note: This is in lieu of class-organized teacher gifts, but you are welcome to give a separate gift to your child's teachers.) https://www.waynethomaspto.com/form/m/216258
2022 Community Service Project Fund: The PTO will fund items to be packaged by our students at school in a community partnership with Fill a Heart 4 Kids on Friday, December 16. This wonderful organization will visit our students to discuss the importance of community, giving back and helping those less fortunate.

NSSD112 DAY OF GIVING - SATURDAY, 12/10
Join the WT PTO, all other District 112 schools and the 112 Education Foundation for the 2022 Day of Giving on Saturday, December 10. This important community event benefits hundreds of families in Highland Park and Highwood through an organized collection of groceries, toiletries and clothing for families in need.
The Wayne Thomas PTO has signed on to purchase 100 boxes of oatmeal to distribute to our community in need. If you are able, families are also encouraged to donate items on their own to the collection before 12/10.They are far from their goals, so any little contribution will go a long way! Visit www.waynethomaspto.com/dayofgiving for links to wishlists and more details on how to support our community.
TREX PLASTIC BAG & WRAP RECYCLING PROGRAM
Did you know that you cannot recycle plastic bags and wrap with your everyday recycling (that gets picked up by our local waste management company)? These materials require special processing in order to be recycled. Wayne Thomas is proud to partner with Trex Company to make this process easier for all of us to execute.
Please bring in CLEAN & DRY (no bags with food - if they've had food in them they must be rinsed and dry) and drop in the bin in the front vestibule. You can double check the magnets that were sent home for what items are acceptable.

Sign up to help the awesome Mr. V in the library. There is no limit to how many slots you can sign up for (you must be logged in to sign up). https://www.waynethomaspto.com/volunteer/97265?d=2022-09-01
