Santa Fe Earns an A on State Report Card
Congratulations to our students and educators for the recent news that Santa Fe earned an A on its State Report Card for 2022-2023 from the Oklahoma State Department of Education! Santa Fe is one of only four Class 6A schools to earn this designation as one of the top-performing schools in Oklahoma. In the areas of academic achievement, post-secondary opportunity, chronic absenteeism, English language learner progress, and graduation, Santa Fe meets the criteria necessary to receive an overall grade of A. Only 5% of the school in Oklahoma make an A, so to be in that distinguished group is a credit to all of our school stakeholders who positively influence the the success of our students.
How can you continue to help your student and Santa Fe in the future?
- Encourage your student to have good attendance. Students missing more than 17 days for any reason (except school activities which do not count) are considered chronically absent by state and federal education officials. Make it a goal for your student to not miss more than 17 days which equals 1.7 days each month during the 10 months of the school year.
- Encourage your student to seek post-secondary opportunities when they enroll. Students who take AP classes (and earn a grade of C or better), students who take concurrent college classes (and earn a grade of C or better), students who attend Francis Tuttle Technology Center, and students who pursue a career pathway at Santa Fe all receive credit for pursuing post-secondary opportunities.
- Keep supporting your students who are English Language Learners. These students are acquiring new language skills while also taking classes in high school that prepare them for college and career. Helping these students now will prepare them for success after high school.
- Academic Achievement is determined by each student's academic progress as measured by the ACT Exam and also the State History and Science Tests (all of which are taken during the Junior Year). This is an area where Santa Fe excels when compared to other schools similar in size and composition. We will continue to pursue a rigorous but manageable curriculum for our students so that they can perform far above the state and national average on assessments. Encouraging your student to use available resources to improve academically will positively impact your student's prospects for education beyond high school.
- Graduation in four years is our primary goal for every freshman who enters Santa Fe in the 9th Grade. If for some reason that progress gets delayed, then graduating in five or six years is of paramount importance. We have many programs to help students who get behind, but often the lack of progress in grades is related to attendance, family, or personal issues. Anything you can do to support your student's graduation in four years (preferably) but definitely in five or six years (if necessary) is much appreciated.
