Dear Parent or Guardian,

Can you believe that it is February already? It is so hard to believe that we only have 4 months left of school. It is truly amazing to see how far our students have come since the beginning of the year not only in academics, but from a social/emotional standpoint as well. This is a topic in education that continues to surface is Social Emotional Learning. According to CASEL (The Collaborative for Social and Emotional Learning), "Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions."

If you take a close look at the Forsyth County Schools Learner Profile, you will see that that the characteristics we are trying to grow in our students is not only academic achievement, but also to develop strong personal qualities, develop both critical and creative thinking skills, teach students how to engage and contribute in society, and also interact effectively. If you have not looked at the Forsyth County Learner Profile, please take a look at it as this is our vision for our students.

The Passion First Mindset teachers us that we are all unique expressions of human existence. It is vital to find out what our individual strengths and talents are so that we might connect them with our goals and visions for the future. In this mindset, we work with students to understand their unique gifts, their skills and strengths, and how to share them with the world to the maximum extent possible. Not only will they explore their interests, they will begin to identify their core values and what they stand for. The next step is helping them learn how to make their dreams into reality, tapping into both the courage and perseverance needed to overcome any challenges they encounter in pursuit of the lives they desire.

WATCH D.O.G.S. is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country. In 1998, the very first WATCH D.O.G.S. program launched at Gene George Elementary in Springdale, AR. Today, more than 6,450 schools across the country have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S. program of their own. Each school year hundreds of thousands of fathers and father-figures make a positive impact on millions of children by volunteering millions of hours in their local schools through this amazing one-of-a-kind program.

· $289 for the 1st hour (2:30-3:30)

· $229 for the 2nd hour (3:35-4:35)

• Lesson presentation is differentiated in each of the two hours.

The Place of Forsyth County was founded in 1975 by four Dominican Nuns. The sisters offered the residents assistance with financial needs, clothing, food and even tutoring children. Throughout our 40 years, we have been the catalyst for several agencies that had their beginnings as programs at The Place. Today we are serving the community with financial emergency assistance, clothing, food and many additional support services. In August 2015 we started a workforce development initiative in conjunction with several local agencies to help the under employed and unemployed prepare for and secure jobs. We also embraced an 8 year old service, Focus on Forsyth, which helps needy households through referrals from schools and senior center. Through our services to the community we are changing lives in Forsyth County Georgia.
