Prevention Education and Awareness Month - Volume 1
Week of Respect - October 10-13
ALL WEEK LONG:
This year, Westech, we are doing things a little different. We are asking you to DO things which demonstrate RESPECT. Our theme this year is RESPECT-IN-ACTION .....
Let's not just talk the talk but walk the walk! Therefore, we will honor the Week of Respect by encouraging you to do some of the following ideas this week:
- Meet someone new at lunch - learn their name!
- Say I'm sorry.
- Compliment someone in each class.
- Help your teacher with a task.
- Smile to others in the hallway.
- Hold the door for someone.
- Say Thank you.
- Sit with someone new on the bus.
- Say good morning to others at the bus stop.
- Recognize someone else's kindness...... (This can be student to student, student to staff, staff to student, staff to staff!! You can fill this form out multiple times.) FILL OUT THE KINDNESS SHOUT OUT FORM, below.
COMING UP NEXT ....School Violence Awareness Week - October 16 - 20
WEDNESDAY -
Students AND staff.....We will join Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center to take a STAND AGAINST BULLYING and UP FOR kindness, acceptance, and inclusion by WEARING ORANGE on 10/18/23!!!

In addition, our CLUB FAIR is this day for new students and incoming freshman to learn about the extra curricular opportunities here at WesTech. No matter what grade you're in, we encourage you to GET INVOLVED in your school community and sign up for a club for the 23-24 school year! An active and engaged student is a happy and productive one!
START WITH HELLO
From Tragedy To Transformation
Sandy Hook Promise is a national nonprofit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. They have several programs that honor their loved ones and to promote kindness and connection in our schools. You may know social isolation is a very real epidemic. It can cause kids to pull away and, in serious situations, even hurt themselves or others. Start With Hello is one of Sandy Hook Promise’s no-cost Know the Signs programs and teaches students to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. So try it here....just START WITH HELLO and reach out and get to know others around you! A free and effective intervention we can do NOW.
Other ways to CONNECT FOR SUPPORT!
If you are concerned about how you, a friend, or a classmate are feeling - seek support! We are here to help! You have multiple outlets with your educational support staff here at school and mental health supports in the community that we can link you to.
