The Penn Elementary Post

Back to school, back to learning. We have 11 weeks left in the school year and every day there is something new to learn. It is extremely important for students to be present and ready to learn every day. For the first three weeks of April we will be awarding the top attendance rate class with an individual gift certificate to Handel's Ice Cream. Thank you to Handel's Ice Cream in National City for your sponsorship. Remember we come to school everyday.

This month students in grades third through fifth will start preparing for the state exams- SBAC (Smarter Balance Assessment). First students will be taking the FAST to get their latest reading level scores and a report on areas where they need to grow and where they are excelling. This will help our teachers in preparing review lessons to get all students ready.

How can you help? We need students in school every day! They need to come ready to learn and review. Students need to sleep at least 8 hours a night, therefore, turn off all electronics and when possible the internet so that students are not tempted to log in to social media. Remind students that Penn Elementary is a place of learning and that socialization time is scheduled for recess.

Doing well on SBAC is a team effort between the school and the home. Together we support the learning of our students.

Saludos familias de Penn,

De regreso a clases, de regreso al aprendizaje. Tenemos 11 semanas para terminar el ciclo escolar y todos los dias tenemos algo nuevo que aprender. Es extremadamente importante que los estudiantes esten presentes y listos para aprender todos los dias. En las primeras tress semanas de abril estaremos premiando a la mejor clase de asistencia con un certificado individual para Handel's Ice Cream. Muchas gracias a Handel's Ice Cream de National City por tu patrocinacion. Recuerden, venimos a la escuela todos los dias.

Este mes los estudiantes de tercero a quinto se estaran preparando para los examenes estatales SBAC (Smarter Balance Assessment). Primero los estudiantes estaran tomando el examen FAST para obtener su nivel de lectura y los maestros tendran un reporte sobre las areas de crecimiento y fortalecimiento de cada estudiante. Esta informacion ayuda a los maestros a preparar lecciones para que todos los estudiantes esten listos.

Como puede ayudar? Necesitamos que esten los estudiantes en la escuela todos los dias! Tienen que venir listos para aprender y repasar aprendizaje. Los estudiantes deben de dormir un minimo de 8 horas cada noche, entonces, todos los electronicos tienen que apagarse y cuando es posible el internet para que los estudiantes no tengan la tentacion de entrar a las redes sociales. Recuerden a los estudiantes que la primaria Penn es un lugar de aprendisaje y que la socializacion es durante el recreo.

El obtener buenas calificaciones en SBAC es de equipo- la escuela y el hogar. Juntos podemos apoyar el aprendizaje de nuestros estudiantes.

It's here! Our PTA will be organizing this year's Jog-a-Thon. Instructions for pledges were distributed on Friday 3/24. We are encouraging students get at least $50 in pledges, but any amount is welcome. Please remember that our Jog-a-Thon is the biggest PTA fundraiser towards school field trips. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!

Ya es este mes! Nuestro PTA esta organizando el Jog-a-Thon de este ano. La instrucciones para promesas fueran distribuidas el dia viernes 3/14. Estamos motivando a que todos los estudiantes obtengan promesas de por lo menos $50, pero todas las cantidades son bienvenidas. Por favor recuerde que el Jog-a-Thon es donde mas fondos se recaudan para nuestros paseos escolares. NECESITAMOS VOLUNTARIOS!!!!

1. Please do not drop off your students too early. We do not have supervision outside our gate and it is too cold. We want to make sure all students are safe and an early drop-off without supervision is worrisome. Our gates open at 7:55.

2. Instruction begins at 8:15. The 8:10 bell is for classes to walk to their classroom. Please make an effort to arrive at school by 8:10.

3. Tardies: We will have students and staff welcoming students who are late at the gate. Our student leaders will walk our young students to their classrooms- there will be no need for parents to do this. We are building independent students.

1. Porfavor no deje a su estudiante muy temprano en la escuela. No tenemos supervision afuera y en ocaciones hace mucho frio. Queremos asegurarnos que todos nuestros estudiantes esten seguros y tenerlos afuera temprano sin supervision es preocupante. Nuestras puertas se abren a las 7:55.

2. La instruccion comienza a las 8:15. La campana de las 8:10 es para que las clases entren a su salon. Por favor continue el esfuerzo de llegar a la escuela antes de las 8:10.

3. Tardancias: Tendremos estudiantes y personal recibiendo a los estudiantes que llegan tarde en nuestro portal. Nuestros estudiantes lideres estaran encaminando a nuestros pequenos a su salon- ya no tendremos a los padres haciendo esto. Queremos que nuestros estudiantes sean independientes.

ILLNESS AND ABSENCE REPORTING

If your child is ill for any reason or will be absent or tardy from school, please report it by 10:00 am on our attendance line at (619)430-1700.

Make sure to leave your child's name, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and your child's teacher's name.

Sabemos question en ocaciones nos enfermamos, pero si el estudiante no esta enfermo es necesario estar en class.

COMO REPORTAR UNA AUSENCIA

Si su estudiante estará ausente por enfermedad o alguna otra razón, por favor de reportarla a nuestra oficina al (619)430-1700 antes de las 10:00 de la mañana.

For favor de comunicarnos el nombre del estudiante, la fecha de la ausencia, la razón, y el hombre del maestro(a).
