Jaguar PRIDE Freshman Assembly:
We are excited to share the success of our Freshman Assembly held on the first Friday of school hosted by BCHS Student Government. This event highlighted the core values of Jaguar PRIDE, and ways students can show PRIDE on our campus. PRIDE stands for Prepared, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Everyone United in all we do. Jaguar PRIDE is about building a culture and community of students who cooperate, collaborate, and come to school ready to learn and achieve their goals.
The Freshman Assembly was a remarkable opportunity for our newest members of the Jaguar family to understand and embrace the values that shape our school's culture. The assembly was designed to help our students realize the importance of embodying these principles not only in their academics but also in their interactions within the school community.
Prepared: Students were reminded of the significance of being well-prepared for school each day. We emphasized the value of active participation, completing assignments on time, and striving for excellence in all endeavors.
Respect: The assembly reinforced the importance of treating everyone with kindness, empathy, and respect. It also highlighted the value of recognizing the varied backgrounds, opinions, and perspectives that enrich our school community.
Integrity: Instilling a strong sense of integrity is crucial for fostering trust and responsibility within our students. We encourage students to take pride in themselves, their learning, and our school.
Discipline: Discipline is the foundation upon which success is built. Our assembly focused on the self-discipline required to manage time effectively, make positive choices, and persist in the face of challenges. By cultivating discipline, our students can achieve their goals and aspirations.
Everyone United: Our students were encouraged to view themselves as integral parts of a larger whole, fostering a sense of belonging and community spirit that extends beyond the classroom. When we are all united and work together as a positive and caring community, it creates a safe campus that sets the stage for all students to be successful in academics and during extracurricular activities.
From the classroom to the common areas, from lunchtime to restroom etiquette, the principles of PRIDE guide our students to exhibit exemplary behavior and set a positive example for others.
We believe that by embracing the essence of being a Boulder Creek Jaguar, our students will not only excel academically but also grow into responsible, empathetic, and resilient individuals. We look forward to a year filled with growth, achievement, and shared successes for all students!
BCHS Hosted Acclaimed Speaker, Alex Boyé during a Special Flex Assembly
DVUSD coordinated acclaimed motivational speaker and singer, Alex Boyé to speak to students from all high school and middle schools on August 24th. BCHS was lucky to have our very own BCHS assembly where nearly 500 Jaguars were able to hear his message to "Bend, Not Break" during Flex Time.
Alex Boyé is known for his uplifting message of "bend don't break," which encourages resilience, adaptability, and a positive outlook in the face of challenges. Through his music and personal stories, Alex captivated and inspired our students to embrace life's obstacles with courage and determination.
This unique opportunity promises to leave a lasting impact on our students, fostering a mindset of strength and growth.
We were so excited to have this opportunity for this assembly that encouraged resilience, adaptability, and a positive outlook in the face of challenges.

All Things EQ
BCHS is an All Things EQ school! Parents, you can sign up to see what your students are learning!
Hello BCHS Families,
This is the last week we will send out the weekly motto updates because we don't want to clutter your email inboxes. If you'd like to continue receiving the weekly student message, you can do so HERE. The motto for this week is:
What have you already decided about your day?
When we wake up in the morning, it is easy to get caught up in the rush of getting to school on time, or we may feel tired or stressed about an upcoming class or test and then carry these negative feelings throughout our day.
Finally, when the day is over, we look back and feel glad the day is behind us. It's like a mental good riddance, as if the day was bad. But was the day bad, or do we have a habit of thinking it was?
Confirmation bias is the tendency to interpret information in a way that supports our existing beliefs. If we already believe the day will be bad, we will notice things that support our belief. In other words, we will find reasons to stay in a bad mood. This can build and snowball until we don't even register the good moments that happen each day.
"Remember, we see the world not as it is but as we are.
Most of us see through the eyes of our fears or our limiting beliefs, or false assumptions."
- Robin Sharma
By changing our beliefs about the day, we can often change how we experience our day. The next time you wake up, take a few moments to think about what you are looking forward to today. If you forget to take a moment in the chaos of the morning, you can do this anywhere - on the bus, while walking in the halls, or while driving to school.
Today is filled with opportunities to have a good day. Stay on the lookout for those moments because you deserve a great day.
Be good to yourself,
Danna Evans

Jaguar Learning!
Awesome Job, Jaguars! Tardies are at an ALL TIME LOW!
First hour tardies are down 59% this year compared to 2022!! Amazing, Jags! BCHS students are taking pride in coming to school on time and are ready to learn!
Reduction in campus tardies have been a goal since last April for BCHS. This ensures that our students are on campus and in class so they don't miss essential class learning. We are so proud of our Jaguars as they are working hard to demonstrate this critical life skill! #JagPRIDE
BCHS Students Raise Grades by Showing their Learning on State Tests!
DVUSD grade enhancement has made an impact on many BCHS students! By demonstrating proficiency on state assessments (ACT, ACT ASPIRE, and AZSci), students have had grades enhanced by one letter grade dependent on the proficiency level. This year BCHS had 670 student semester grades enhanced because students did well on state testing! This raises students' GPAs and can help with post-secondary college scholarships and school/program admittance. Great job, Jaguars! Work each and every day to bring up your grades and to ensure that you are doing your very best-- this will help you be prepared for state testing in the spring!
Information on the 2023-2024 Grade Enhancement process will be coming soon!
BCHS Collaborative Team Spotlight: Government
Mr. McNulty and Mrs. Newton are a team of BCHS Government teachers that are making great strides in their Professional Learning Community work. During the 90 minute early release collaboration time each Friday, they share insights, exchange strategies, and brainstorm innovative solutions to enhance student learning. They consistently gather and analyze common assessment data to identify trends and patterns in student performance. This data-driven approach enables them to pinpoint areas of strength and areas in need of improvement. By focusing on actionable data, they can tailor instructional strategies and interventions to address individual student needs effectively.
Their dedicated efforts in developing common formative assessments and closely monitoring student progress has resulted in a positive impact on student achievement during the first weeks of school. This collaborative spirit fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth among teachers at BCHS. Most importantly, this scientific, standardized approach allows for more accurate insights into student learning and facilitates data-driven decision-making to help ALL BCHS students achieve at their highest levels!

BCHS Regional Track & Field Program Spotlight in Images Arizona!
BCHS teachers, Mr. Baxley, Mr. Jordan, and Mrs. Baldwin were recognized in the inaugural cohort of the ASU Impact Corps of the Helios Decision Center for their incredible work in building incredible student success in college level engineering after BCHS!
From the Helios Center Impact Report Volume 1:
"After identifying a group of schools whose graduates showed particularly high rates of university success in individual subjects, we reached out to learn more about what was happening at those schools that may be contributing to these high rates of success. From there, we connected with this group of 12 teachers who were most directly connected to these subjects at their schools.
Since interviewing and in most cases observing and visiting their classrooms, we invited them to become the Inaugural Cohort of the ASU Impact Corps. Their stories are highlighted in this catalog, and they are serving as mentors to other educators and schools in Arizona." (9)
"Boulder Creek High School (BCHS) shows a very high rate of success in 100 & 200-level engineering courses at the state's public universities. Bachelor's degrees in engineering are also one of the
most popular choices for BCHS graduates from the past 5 years, both in degrees completed and in declared majors. This case study focus on an instructional team approach between two engineering
teachers, Mr. Andrew Jordan & Mr. Donald Baxley, and one of the school’s math teachers, Ms. Juliette Baldwin." (14)
We are so incredibly proud of our teachers, students, and their amazing success! Congratulations, Mr. Baxley, Mr. Jordan, and Mrs. Baldwin!

We are so grateful for our Parent Association. To help staff get ready for kids, they treated us to a lunch in July. And then we were also treated to a wonderful Hawaiian lunch in August! Our Parent Association also is working on collecting funds to send to public schools in Hawaii impacted by the devastating Maui fire. We are so grateful for the support and the community spirit of our amazing parents!
Our Parent Association is always looking for membership to do amazing things for our students and staff! Please reach out to Beverly Jones about supporting BCHS through our Parent Association! bcjagparents@gmail.com
Show that Jaguar P.R.I.D.E!
BC Jaguar PRIDE means that our Jaguars are Prepared, Respectful, have Integrity, are Disciplined, and show that Everyone is united! To ensure a safe, focused, and positive learning environment, we PRIDE expectations with students on Thursday in second period.
- This includes our expectation that students keep their cellphones on silent mode in their backpack so students can properly engage in learning.
- Students should be prepared with a fully charged iPad each day and any other items required for class to help with their success.
- It is also critical that students are in class and on time to be present for learning which is critical for their success.
- We also expect our students to be respectful of classrooms, school and personal property each and every day.
Please review our BCHS PRIDE expectations in our Student/Parent Handbook . Taking time to show Jaguar PRIDE is important as we work toward our mission of providing “a safe learning environment with rigorous academic opportunities for all students to graduate as productive, responsible, and contributing citizens!”
