December is here and our thoughts turn to how Sunset School supports those in need in Cody. We would like to support the Cody Cupboard with a drive of non-food household essentials, toiletries, and baby products. The drive is December 1 through December 15.
- Toiletries - deodorant, toilet paper, shaving gel, shampoo, bar soap, toothbrushs, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, facial tissue
- Household items - laundry soap, dryer sheets, dish soap, Clorox wipes, paper towels, napkins
- Baby supplies - diapers, pull-ups, baby wipes
Boxes will be in each hallway for the donations. As we do, this is a competition between K/1st, 2nd/3rd, and 4th/5th hallways! There will be prizes!

Title 1 Happenings
Happy December Sunset Families!
As we head into these busy weeks, please consider helping your student find opportunities to read and write, whether it’s a holiday card, favorite recipes, a Christmas wishlist, a to-do list, thank you cards, etc.
Here to help inspire young readers is a Christmas Bingo Card.
Have a safe and Happy Holiday !
The next PTO meeting will include a parent education discussion on why reading is so hard and how to support reading at home with read alouds.

A note from Brooke Sieg, PCSD 6 Preschool Liaison:
It's hard to believe that the Holiday Season is upon us!! I hope you take a few moments to read over the December Community Newsletter, which is full of great information for families, including FREE events in Cody throughout the month.
5th Grade Floor Hockey Tournament
Our 5th grade classes are participating in the annual floor hockey tournament on December 20, from 8:30-11:45 a.m. at the Rec Center. Come over and cheer them on!
From Our School Nurse
December is always a fun and busy month at Sunset School. Many classrooms will have holiday celebrations for the students to enjoy. I am asking you to keep food allergies in mind as the holidays approach. We have many students with food allergies, some causing skin or stomach issues while others are life-threatening. Please contact your child’s teacher or myself for any questions regarding food allergies in your student’s classroom. If your student has food allergies, consider offering alternative snacks for them to enjoy if there are snacks in the classroom that they can not eat. Thank you for working with me to keep all of our students safe. I wish you all the best!
Meet Our Long Term Speech Substitute Teacher
Mrs. Lindsey Swope will be the long term sub from approximately early January to early/mid April while Mrs. Larson is out on maternity leave. Mrs. Swope will begin meeting the students in December in order to provide a smooth transition. Please read more about her below!
Lindsey Swope completed her master's degree in speech pathology through the University of Wyoming and has worked with children and adults in a variety of settings, including providing in person and teletherapy speech therapy services for elementary school students, and speech therapy for adults in the medical setting. She served as a clinical instructor for speech pathology graduate students at the University of Wyoming Speech and Hearing Clinic.
Mrs. Swope grew up in Vermont, but moved to Wyoming 20 years ago and currently lives in Powell with her husband and two children, ages 4 and 2 1/2. She loves any outdoor activity with her family, especially camping and hiking in the Bighorn mountains.

Doctor's notes for absences
Parents, just a reminder about absences due to illness or doctor/dentist visits. If your student is sick and they see a doctor, please get a note from their doctor regarding their illness. This will excuse their absence from school. The same is true for a doctor or dentist appointment, a note from the doctor/dentist will excuse their absence.
Dress warmly, it's cold out there!
Please label your student's coat, hat, mittens, lunch box etc. with their name. This makes it easier to return misplaced items to the proper owner! Thank you.
Sunset families, just a reminder that you can use linq.com for applications, paying on accounts, and checking on your student's accounts.
Meal costs for this school year:
Breakfast $3.00
Lunch $3.75
Our Food Services department is happy to announce they are able to locally source so of their ingredients; the ground beef is purchased from Gallagher Farm and the lettuce is purchased from Greybull Valley Produce.
