Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion Families,
I want to wish a very Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all of our Adelante Selby students, families, staff, and community! Enjoy this fun card from our Office Staff: Happy Holidays and Feliz Año Nuevo!
The iSing Choir Winter Recital was wonderful! iSing is a new after school program this year that provides a great opportunity for the 3rd-5th grade girls to develop their singing talents and be a part of a choir. A big Shout Out to Director Hayden and Teacher Ella for teaching our girls in such a fun and engaging way. Here are a few short video clips from the Recital:
I would like to congratulate all of the students for participating in this year's Student Council Elections. Youth Leadership opportunities are provided at our school through Student Council thanks to Jose Luna our Community School Coordinator. 4th and 5th grade students campaigned for Student Council by talking to fellow students, putting up posters, and recording speeches for the entire 3-5th grade student body. We are proud of everyone! The winners were: President: Oliver Zoepf; Vice President: Minali Gaggar,; Treasurer: Samantha Lara; and Secretary: Guiliana Landa. 4th and 5th grade Danny G Dance Performances at Carrington Hall!
Buy your tickets for the 4th and 5th Grade Dance Performance!
The 4th and 5th grade Danny G Dance Recital at Carrington Hall was a great experience our students will never forget. They had Dance class weekly during the first Trimester with Danny G as part of the Enrichment rotation thanks to everyone's financial support with Unidos PTO. Each class then chose picked one dance/song to present at Carrington Hall. A very special SHOUT OUT to Danny G who did a great job choreographing(as always) and encouraging the students to do their best and to work together for the final presentation. Thank you to the parent volunteers who were selling concessions to support the upcoming 5th grade Outdoor Education Trip. Finally, a very special SHOUT OUT to parent volunteer Michelle Smith who booked Carrington Hall, organized the ticket seating(which had a few last minute challenges as the first 2 rows were blocked off at the last minute ), put together the program, and also video taped the performances! Enjoy the recordings below:
- Maestra Lily's Class: "Orinoco"
- Maestro Jose Manuel's Class: "La Chona"
- Maestra Jeannette's Class: "Move It"
- Maestro Ignacio's Class: "Ya Voy"
- Maestra Rita's Class: "Old School"

New TK/Kindergarten Registration 2023/23 and Tours
The School District Enrollment and School of Choice for 2023/24 TK/Kindergarten opened on November 4th and continues through Friday, January 13th at 3:00pm. It is important that both the Registration/Enrollment Form for your home school(based on your address) and the School of Choice Form for Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion must be completed by January 13th. Current PreSchool students here on our campus with Maestra Aida or Maestra Yulizma and TK students with Maestra Jennifer will have priority acceptance as long as the forms are completed on time. Furthermore, siblings of students who are currently enrolled here and at Kennedy in the Spanish immersion strand also have priority for acceptance if the forms are completed by January 13th. Please complete this Adelante Selby Sibling 2023/24 Form so we can alert the District to prioritize your acceptance for next year.
Please help get the word out to family, friends, and neighbors about our weekly informational TK/Kindergarten Tours that meet in person at the school office every Thursday at 8:40AM and the tours will continue through the end of January. Please register for a TK/Kindergarten Tour with this form: TK/Kindergarten Tour Registration. Promoting our school by "word of mouth" from parents and community members is the best way to "market" our school and immersion program to prospective new parents. When promoting our school, keep in mind that mastering two or more languages has enormous benefits for our students, both native speakers of English and native speakers of the target language(Spanish) at a dual language immersion school. Other talking points when talking about our school are that research has confirmed the benefits of biliteracy and bilingualism that are demonstrated as brain and cognitive functioning, academic, economic, and social advantages, as well as cross-cultural competency and supporting a stronger family cohesion and connection to their family heritage.
Child Nutrition Services: December Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
Here are the menus for October:
