CVU Celebrations
September 8, 2023
Dear CVU Community, Welcome! This is CVU Celebrations, our weekly publication that spotlights the moments we see our students, staff, and community members living our core values (we throw some news items in, too). While we call this Celebrations, we don't just celebrate accomplishments. As we discussed in our opening assembly, school needs to be a place where we can be authentic...where we can be vulnerable enough to grow, to learn, and to be creative. What if we spent less energy (especially on the first day of school) avoiding embarrassing moments and more energy embracing those wonderful goofs that make us all human. Wouldn't school be a fun and courageous place if we could just laugh at ourselves a bit more? Anyway, this would be a great time to ask your student these questions: What amazing mistakes and missteps can you celebrate this week? When have you been courageous this year? Finally, thanks to our caregivers and parents for getting this year off to a great start!

Student Celebrations
Students, you may have noticed it was a touch warm in your rooms this week...or in the halls because your rooms were too hot! You maintained focus despite the challenges. Well done!
This is a photo of 300 9th graders, 1 Nik Blasius, and dozens of Flight School leaders. Thank you to our many students who gave up their last day of summer to welcome our newest students.
Congratulations to Robert Nesbit who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout!

Faculty/Staff Celebrations
Thank you to our faculty and staff for...well...everything! Not only did you kick off this year with style (and harmony), but you did so in really, really warm rooms. Thank you for the joyfulness you bring to our work!
The Playing Fields event was awesome on Thursday night, and it reminded me of the choreography of Add/Drop this week. Direction Center, you rock! And...Jacqui Roden, you get a shout out, too! Anyone who has to manage parking at CVU deserves one!

Connect, learn, and grow at ACCESS CVU!
Please join Adam Bunting and Jessica Hoskins (CVU Director of Special Services) on Monday, September 11, from 8-8:45am, at CVU for our fall meeting of the Partners for Meaningful Inclusion. Partners for Meaningful Inclusion is a forum for CVU parents, students, faculty, staff and administrators to connect and have meaningful conversations around programming and structures at CVU that support inclusive practices. The meetings are designed to be informal and accessible to all families. This is a group that began in the 21-22 school year and has yet to meet in person, and we are excited to have in-person conversation about these topics.

Dear Seniors & Parents/Caregivers of Seniors,
On Tuesday, September 12th, at 7:45 am, students and senior parents/caregivers are invited to attend a presentation with the Direction Center faculty for information on future planning as well as an explanation of how the counselors help students navigate the college exploration and application process. This event will be held in-person in the CVU Auditorium. If you are unable to attend in person, we will be livestreaming and recording the event. Use this link to access the event:

VTCAP Update
All students grades 3-9 took the new VTCAP assessment this spring in math and literacy (and grades 5, 8 & 11 in Science). Results from the assessment were recently shared with districts. We are just beginning to compile those in an effort to send individual student reports to families. We are not anticipating that those will be ready to send until closer to the end of September. When the individual student reports are sent, there will be a guide for families that accompanies the report.
Dear CVSD Families and Caregivers,
Our district values your feedback! Starting on September 22 and continuing through October 9, we will be asking you to take a brief survey to tell us about your experience with the school(s) your child attends. To ensure we continue to provide high-quality learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. We invite you to share your thoughts.
We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us using Let's Talk.
Thank you,
Champlain Valley School District
