Rio Norte News - September 8, 2023
A Note From the Principal
Good Morning River Hawk Families,
This Saturday morning, I start off by asking for your help in talking to your student about crowd safety. On Monday, I will address students on RioTV (posted after 8 a.m.) about the "crowd mobbing" that occurred several times Friday at lunch. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but some students thought this was fun and games, and if this type of behavior continues it will only be a matter of time before we see injuries. Please take some time this weekend, or Monday after watching my address, to speak with your student about how YOU expect them to respond when a crowd is forming or when they see a crowd running. Please help reinforce my message that we want students at Rio to be safe and not contribute to creating dangerous situations. As always, I am truly appreciative of your partnership!
Coming at the end of September our River Hawks will see a very important assembly presentation from Kim Karr on Social Media Safety and Digital Citizenship. That evening we are hosting a PARENT presentation with Ms. Karr, that we believe you will find very valuable as your pre-teen and/or teens navigate social media now or in the future. Save the date for Tuesday, September 26th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in our MPR. Please see more information HERE.
Our major school-wide fundraiser is coming to an end. We have not yet reached our same goal as last year, so please consider supporting us if you are able and haven't done so yet. If you haven't set-up your student's fundraising page, click HERE. Please NOTE that the fundraiser does close this Tuesday, Sept. 12th. Any student whose donations total $50 or more can attend the Day of Awesomeness in October. Some parents have asked if they can make a straight donation and not go through the on-line page. Yes! Checks payable to Rio Norte ASB can be dropped off in the main office. We appreciate your support and couldn't do all of this without you!
Finally, consider taking the night off from cooking this Wednesday, and support our PTSA Panda Express fundraiser! Their funds completely support Rio Norte and we are blessed by this. Get lunch or dinner from open to close at the Newhall Ranch/Copperhill location. Order ahead on-line or via the app and use the code on the flyer pictured below (pdf also available).
