State Required Prevention Education
As of the 2023-2024 school year, the Ohio Department of Education requires school districts to provide annual prevention education to all students in grades 6-12 around suicide prevention, violence prevention, and social inclusion. This requirement aligns with HB123 the Safety And Violence Education (SAVE) Students Act. ODE has shared an approved list of evidenced-based programs for schools to fulfill this new requirement. Upon review of the approved programs, Gahanna has chosen to utilize the Sandy Hook Promise Say Something & Start With Hello Programs. Please read the attached letter for additional information that includes the option of opting your child out of these lessons.

All proceeds from this fundraiser go to support students with special needs in the ESS and FSS programs. You can use this link to place your order. 6th Grade Update
Math 6: Students received their Chapter 6 study guide on Friday 2/9 and had class time to begin working on it. It is due the day of their test which will be Thursday, February 15th. Please encourage students to work through their study guide at home and ask any questions they may have before the test.
ACE 6/7: Students will be bringing home their Unit 8 test over similar figures, proportional relationships, and percentages this week. We began our geometry unit 9 and students have strategies for areas of parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids. Their amazing mathematician project is due on Wed, 2/14. Requirements are posted in Google Classroom.
ACE 7/8: We are working with exponents and scientific notation. We have studied simple and compound interest and how the rules impact the graphs.
ACE ELA: We are finishing up their fiction book clubs this week. Within the clubs, students focused on different character relationships and power imbalances, and developed ways to document their thinking. As writers, students are researching various inventions to answer the question “Which invention has had the greatest impact on our world?” Students will be placed in debate teams this coming week where they will develop arguments for the invention they were assigned in preparation for Debate Day during class! Which invention do you think has had the greatest impact?
Printing Press
Optical Lenses

ELA: Our ELA classes are digging into the Outsiders novel by studying characters, relationships, mood, and theme. Some general ideas we are discussing include social class, cliques, and identity. On the other side of our fiction work, students have been learning new vocabulary words that show up in our text by using hand motions that connect to each definition.
Science: Science classes have measured motion in regards to reference points with Go! Motion sensors and online explorations. We have measured speed in relation to graphs, domino chain reactions, and more. This is the final component of physical science as we now turn our studies to life sciences.
Social Studies: Students are investigating the Nile River and its importance to Ancient Egypt. Also we will be looking into what daily life was like in Ancient Egypt and the formation of pyramids. Did you know that the Ancient Egyptians loved to play board games after a long work day.
