WE ALL REST!
I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying
I love you
Viking Fam,
What a Wonderful World is one of my favorite songs. It is relaxing, and the outdoor imagery soothes my soul. As we finish up the first 9 weeks of school, I would like to emphasize something that is often overlooked but crucial for success in both academics and lifeβrest and taking time to recharge.
We all know the importance of hard work and dedication. However, it is equally important to understand the value of rest. A well-rested mind and body are more creative, focused, and productive. Taking breaks from schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and even screen time helps to reduce stress and prevent burnout.
We celebrated World Mental Health Day this past week and reminded our students to be kind to themselves and to do something that felt good to their souls - go get ice cream, watch a movie, spend time with friends. Our students will follow our lead when it comes to resting well. Our example is invaluable in helping our children understand the importance of stepping away from responsibilities occasionally to refresh and rejuvenate. A healthy balance between work and rest is essential not only for academic success but also for overall well-being. I hope that this long weekend will serve our students well. Sleeping in, spending time outdoors, watching football, and reading a good book are all good for the soul. Itβs how I hope to spend my weekend.
Thank you all for a great start to our school year! I appreciate the opportunity to serve our students, staff, and families. Itβs been amazing! It makes me think to myself what a wonderful world!
We all REST,
Janda Castillo

π IMPORTANT REMINDER π’
PICK UP/DROP OFF PROCEDURES
We have had more and more parents picking up students in the front of the building which is reserved for bus riders only. If you pick up your student after school, please pick them up from the back of the building. Driving past a parked bus is dangerous and against the law. Please help us keep our students safe by following the proper protocols for picking up your student.
Also, if you have a student who drives to school, please remind them to drive slowly in the parking lot and while on school grounds. The end of the school day is chaotic in the parking lot and all drivers need to drive with caution. We realize the cars can back up, but the parking lost is mostly clear by 4:45. Please slow down and be patient and safe.

PLAN AHEAD: Senior Pep Rally and Senior Night
We are so excited to celebrate the amazing Class of 2025 on Friday, November 1st with a few annual traditions. See below for important information so you don't miss a thing!
Senior Pep Rally @ 11:05am- Our entire Senior class will be putting on their annual performance and parents are encouraged to attend. To attend the pep rally, all you have to do is email Kelly Berry (kberry@lagovistaisd.net), and she'll have a tag ready for you.
Senior Night for Fall Sports - We will recognize Senior athletes and their parents in the following sports BEFORE Friday night's game on November 1st. Seniors and their parents will need to purchase a ticket online to attend. Parents, please plan to arrive early and meet on the track near the field house to line up- (and in this order):
Football
Trainers
Cheerleaders
Valkyries
Band
Cross Country (Girls and Boys)
Fall Tennis (Girls and Boys)
Fall Golf (Girls and Boys)
Senior Walk @ the end of the game- This tradition is for ALL SENIORS. After the football game, an announcement will be made for Seniors to make their way to the visitor side of the field and facing the home stands. Senior Parents will line up on the home sideline facing and across from their Seniors. Seniors will grasp hands and walk across the field to music they've selected. Then hugs and tears can commence when they make their way across to parents. It's a special tradition. If you don't want to attend the entire football game, but want to participate in the Senior Walk, please plan to be at the field around 9pm. There will be no charge at that point.
Lastly, Seniors should plan to wear WHITE shirts to school on Friday and to the Senior Walk, if possible. Just one more way to be a unified Class of 2025! We look forward to celebrating this amazing group of students!
