This past Thursday, we conducted our district-wide SRT (Systems Readiness Test). This test allowed us to assess how ready our technology is for our upcoming tests such as ILEARN. Our 6th grade students will be taking ILEARN in late April/early May. In order for our students' computers to receive current updates so they can smoothly navigate tests like this, they must power down their computers each night. Sometimes students experience technology issues because they are not shutting down their computers, which prevents the computers from getting the updates. Thank you for helping your student to remember to do this each night.

As we approach Thanksgiving, the staff at Southport Academy wants our families to know that we are very thankful for our students and the support received from you. We hope you enjoy time with family and friends during the break.

Included below is the eLearning schedule Southport Academy students and staff will follow if an eLearning Day is declared. This next week, we will be practicing how to join Google Meets and review the expectations for learning remotely. On an eLearning Day, this schedule will be sent via ParentSquare prior to 8:00 a.m.

The funds we raised with the sales of chocolate bars will be used for student activities and field trips. We are still waiting for fundraising money to be returned to determine our profit. All chocolate bar fundraising money needs to be returned to the SA Main Office BEFORE Thanksgiving Break. Individual prize winners will be announced after Thanksgiving Break.

Perry Township wants to make sure our families are connected to Food Resources in case a need arises so they'll know where to turn! Please take a moment to review these Food Assistance resources in case your family may have a need!

If your child has outgrown their school clothes this year, we are looking for new and/or gently used clothes to be donated to our school clinic.

What is it? Learn how to crochet with the help of your peers, advance skills you already have with more challenging projects. All materials provided!

When: Every Thursday after school 3:00-4:00pm Pick up no later than 4:10pm

Chess Club meets every Friday at 7:00-8:00a.m. in room 106.

Bible Club meets every Friday in the IMC from 7:15-8:00a.m.

Drama Club is open to all students and will meet Wednesdays throughout the school year. During these meetings, students will be given the opportunity to practice theater skills and participate in theater-related activities/games. Pre-registration is NOT required; though regular attendance is preferred. Meetings are held in the auditorium, 2:30-3:30. Pick up is at door 3. First semester meeting dates are: October 4, October 25, November 8, November 15, November 29 and December 6. Second semester dates will be announced later.

Attention Ladies — Are you interested in joining an all girls running club this year? Do you like playing games, exercising, doing yoga, and having fun? If so, you should join the Girls' Heart and Sole Running Club here at Southport Academy.

Nov. 20th Wrestling Practice 3:00-5:00pm

Southport Middle School is having open registration for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student looking to join the Cardinal swim team.

Registration nights are November 28th and December 7th from 6:00-7:00 pm. Cost per student is $55. Please enter @ door 9A (SE corner of the campus). Students will be fitted for a suit at this time. Each student must have an updated physical and completed online registration in order to begin practices after winter break.

The first Friday of each month is a Spirit Day for Southport Academy students. Students who pay $1.00 are allowed to wear blue or black jeans without holes, rips, patches, or tears. A solid color collard shirt or a Southport Academy spirit shirt may be worn. All donations collected by Southport Academy students and staff will go to a designated organization that we sponsor that month. Students should be in dress code attire all other school days.

Reporting Student Absences: Call the attendance line at 317-789-1402 before 9:00 a.m, to report your child's absence.

Leaving Early and Tardies: If your child needs to leave early, please send a note with your student to submit to Student Services. . If you are unable to send a note, you may call our staff in Student Services at 317-789-1462. When your child is tardy to school, they can be dropped off in front of the building. Please report to this to Student Services at 317-789-1462. Parents/guardians must present a valid ID when picking up your student.

Make-up Work Policy:

Make-up work due to absences may be obtained by contacting teachers in ParentSquare. If a student has missed 3 consecutive days. please contact Student Services. Thank you, if you have any questions, please call our Student Services Office at 317-789-1462.

The Dress Code expectations at Southport Academy are outlined on our school website and linked here. We have been reviewing the dress code regularly so students understand what attire is within the dress code. We appreciate your support.

Student drop-off at Southport 6th Grade Academy is 7:45—8:00 a.m. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. for students to enter the building. Students enter the building via the side ramp at Door #19. At 7:45 a.m., students will go to the cafeteria and wait for the bell to ring.

Students are tardy at 8:10 a.m. Any student arriving after 8:10 a.m. must report to Student Services through Door 1 to sign in and receive a pass to class. Only drop-off/pick-up in the first two lanes in the front of the building. Please click on this link for the drop-off/pick-up procedures.

Electronic devices brought to school must be turned off and stored in student lockers, or those items are subject to confiscation by any school employee. Perry Township Schools does not authorize the use of electronic devices not required for school. Violations may result in discipline as well as confiscation.

Use of photo imaging (camera), audio, video recording on any device is strictly prohibited. Administration reserves the right to search the contents of any device if there is reasonable suspicion to believe that the search can reveal information regarding a violation of school rules.

School officials will not continue to pursue the theft of the above named unauthorized items.
