Dear Sunshine Parents,

We are approaching to the end of 1st Quarter. Our teachers have assigned assignments and projects to students. Report cards will be issued on October 16th.

As a feature of our gradebook Sunshine Connect, our parents receive daily progress emails. I believe it's a great tool for our parents to keep track of their student's daily progress. If you have any feedback about this email feature or Sunshine Connect overall, please send it to Mr. Duzyol at tduzyol@sunshinestemacademy.org

As a school, we have decided to administer ITBS Testing for our 3rd and 5th grade students. Historically, we have been gathering ITBS Assessment data and we will continue to do so. Please mark your calendars for the dates below.

The Media Center is available for AR Quizzes. We need volunteer parents to help students for taking AR Quizzes in the mornings from 7:10 AM to 7:45 AM.

AR Home Connect access is available on our Portal to track your child's AR Quizzes. You may also set up email notification to receive emails whenever your child complete an AR Quiz.

Sunshine STEM Academy has decided to administer ITBS test to all of our 3rd and 5th grade students Monday, October 19th - Friday, October 23rd. Please do not schedule doctor's appointments for your 3rd or 5th grade students during that week.

Please mark your calendar for Parent-Teacher Conference Day on October 9th. You may schedule conference with your child's teacher to discuss your child's progress in school.

October 12th is Teacher-Student holiday. School will be closed on Monday, October 12th.

PVO held all parents meeting on September 24th, and thank you for all parents who attended the meeting! We have a new PVO website set up at sunshinestempvo.shutterfly.com. Please check out the site for upcoming events, pictures, sign-up opportunities and message board. This site will be our collaboration portal for all PVO parents.

Please contact pvo@sunshinestemacademy.org if you have not received an invite.

You will need to be a PVO member in order to gain access to PVO website. PVO membership is at 30% coverage today, and we want to get to 100% enrollment across all Sunshine families. PVO enrollment opens all year long. Please talk to your fellow Sunshine families to encourage them to join! We have great programs planned out for our kids and families and we need engagement from all families to make it another fun and successful year for our kids!

Fall Festival is on October 17th, Saturday. Watch out for communication on PVO website and your kid's folder. Clear your calendar, show up and have fun!

We would like to announce a new resource which is available on our Portal (please see screenshots below).

Khan Academy video lessons are available publicly for everyone. But we have put Math lessons together for each domain in Math, based on your child's most recent MAP RIT Score in Math. As your child's MAP Math RIT score increase throughout school year, video links will be updated and your child's individualized Math lessons will generated every after MAP Test administration.

We encourage our parents to help students accessing this resources at home.

Thanks to everyone that is promoting the Student Council sponsored event: SOCKtober. Our students began this endeavor hoping to help families in need in our local community. We wanted to provide families with something very useful that most may not think to give-- warm socks for the winter months.

We reached out to The Drake House (see link below) as they are doing great things to help families in our area. Yesterday, I received a call back from the director and she was thrilled that our students thought of The Drake House and the families they support. She stated that they would gladly accept any new socks. http://thedrakehouse.org/

Please help spread the word to anyone that would like to donate that we are now collecting new socks only.

We would like to announce that MAP Winter Term will be administered at the first week of December, from December 1st to December 7th. Results will be shared with parents after December 8th.

Our school library is available to checkout books. Students can visit Media Center between 7:10 and 7:45 to check-out books and return their books.

Accelerated Reader quiz is be available for all students. Students can visit Media Center in the morning between 7:10 and 7:45 to take AR Quizzes for the book they read.
